Warms up quickly, cleans easily. Just great.
I've been using this sandwich maker almost every day since I received it. It makes perfect grilled cheese and other warm sandwiches. I also use to warm small soft rolls for breakfast, small cinnamon twirls, and other bread items that aren't too thick (or I don't mind squishing a little). French bread "toasts" for example are ready faster with less chance of burning than if I put them in the toaster. Should work with bagel halves as well. It's a no nonsense appliance. It has no controls (other than two lights). You plug it in when you want it on; unplug it when you want if off. It's easy to clean, easy to store, and doesn't take much counter space. I find that these appliances with few bells and whistles work better and last longer than the digital, multi-choice, many button ones. So, back to basics, this appliance does what it's supposed to do and does it well.I have ordered two others to give my kids for Christmas because they have both commented on how they like it.One observation: as the unit cools back down, it sometimes makes weird crackling sounds. This hasn't affected performance and, to me, serves as a confirmation that, yes, I unplugged it after removing the food.

It's a hit with my 90 year old Dad!!!
I bought this sandwich maker for my 90 year old Dad for Christmas. He doesn't "cook" but absolutely loves this easy way to make grill cheese sandwiches. He will not turn on the stove so this has really been a blessing. He thinks he's a pro now! He says it's so easy and a cinch to clean. Grilled cheese with slices of ham are his favorite. Butter spray is much easier to use than spreading butter on the bread as his mobility isn't as good as it used to be. The bread toasts perfectly, the cheese melts and the ham is hot. Microwaving a cup of soup and making his sandwich is his perfect evening meal. I've yet to teach him how to make other things, but he seems to like the way he uses it now. I knew it was a hit when he told me he had put away his toaster oven and uses this exclusively! Highly recommend! Ease of use and cleaning are definitely a plus. If my 90 year old Dad can cook with this anyone can!! Thanks Proctor-Silex!!

Wish I had throught of that product
No more messy frying pans to make my ham and cheese grilled sandwiches. It is first and a excellent sandwich maker, but it can be used for other things, like frying bacon, warming sausage paddies, grilling hot dogs and making toast. Simple to use, plug in, when the second light turns green, put in what your cooking close the lid and in two to three minutes, your finished. Not only is it fast, hot and small, the best thing is clean up. Wipe it down with a paper towel and let it cool and put it away. I have been using it almost daily, fix my English muffin in the morning and make sandwiches for lunch, and sometimes I use it for fixing a evening meal. For the price, it just can't be beat, I compare it to my microwave as the two items all kitchens need. On a scale of one to ten, it is a 20.

Serves the purpose, but if you want thick sandwiches look again.
Small, but handy. It's really not large enough for more than one sandwich at a time, and not a thick one, either. The cover has to be locked down to cook and thus the sandwich is really compressed flat. I don't think it will take two slices of a thick bread or a lot of filling. It does cook quickly, but I found that half the sandwich browned faster than the other, and so had to turn it around and cook longer to brown it fully. When you close the lid the sandwich filling tends to slide to the front, since there's no room for expansion. All in all, this is a small appliance that does well at grilled cheese, regular sliced bread, not a lot of filling, and makes a quick meal. Easy to clean, just wipe with a damp cloth.Having used this for a while, I find I don't really like how squashed the sandwiches come out. They are very flattened and the bread becomes tough. It's quick and easy to clean, but I'm going to buy one with a "floating" top so I can make thicker sandwiches.

Absolutely THE BEST grilled cheese maker
Absolutely THE BEST grilled cheese maker for the money. Makes two at a time. Very quick! Easy for anyone to use. If you are a bachelor or single person, all you need is this and a can opener to have it all. Also makes grilled ham sandwiches with or without the cheese, and great for fast cooked frozen rolled tacos. Only negative, no on-off switch. Must be unplugged after use. Cleanup is simple with a wet cloth and a little detergent. Wipes clean. We use ours many times a week and mostly for fast grilled cheese sandwiches.

Nice little sandwich maker
I butter the outside of both slices of bread, and every sandwich--regardless of the type of bread used--comes out perfectly toasted with the "inside" (cheese, deli ham, etc.) cooked exactly the way I like it. This little sandwich maker seems to sense the type of bread used, and nothing has ever been either under-cooked or burned. It only takes a couple of minutes for it to toast a sandwich. I only need to cook one sandwich at a time, and it is perfect for that. I think it would be a bit "crowded" for two normal-size sandwiches. However, it is perfect for making a single sandwich, which is exactly what I needed. I had been looking for something like this, which is much smaller than most of the ones on the market. That makes it handy for storage.

Excellent product, especially for the money
I decided on this sandwich maker because I didn't want to spend to much money and still have a good sandwich. After looking at reviews all over, I decided on this and I am very happy with it. No on/off button, but no problem. It says to wait until the light is red, I usually don't, but that's just me. By the time my dog finishes eating, the first sandwich is done. By the time I'm done giving her the pills the second one is done and I'm on my way out the door.It works perfectly, heats up very, very quick, toasts the bread evenly and melts the cheese just right.I am definitely recommending this
