2007 digitally remastered two CD set, an unbeatable document of Slade's finest work during the second half of their illustrious career, including the smash hits 'My Oh My', 'Run Runaway' and 'All Join Hands'. Though collection covers the latter years of a band whose hit-single heyday had been in the previous decade, the '80s for Slade proved to be a true renaissance and a rockin' rebirth. It all started at the 1980 Reading Festival when a field full of Heavy Metal fans were treated to a Slade performance of such power and professionalism, the band were re-embraced by the audience as credible Hard Rock heroes. Thereafter it was hit singles, sold-out tours and a lucrative new record deal which yielded seven more years of Slade music. Here we present 33 tracks from a group who, while updating themselves for the new decade, also maintained the essential qualities that made Slade a unique British Pop/Rock band and a national treasure. All Join Hands!
Despite the fact that Slade had quite the following in the 70's, it wasn't until they released Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply in the U.S. back in 1983 that they came to my attention. That album (which was released elsewhere as The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome) introduce me to a band that, not only had I never heard of, but no one else I knew had ever heard of them either. For the most part, that is still the case today. And all I can say is, there are an awful lot of people missing out on some great music. This collection is a great sampling of some of Slade's absolute best material which comes primarily from the second half of their career. A second half that, in this humble listener's opinion, is when they truly hit their stride. As good as the pre-1979 material is and how well it served them, the material that they generated across the years represented here are, I feel, far superior. These are catchy tunes that will make you want to learn the lyrics and sing along. They are truly one of the few bands that I regret never seeing live. Though in my defense, they didn't play a whole lot of dates in the U.S. by the time I'd discovered them. If you're wondering what kind of infectious music is contained herein, call up YouTube and type in The Myzsterious Mizster Jones or All Join Hands or My Oh My. By the way, they are nortorious for intentionally misspelling the words in their song titles. Just sayin'. So, these are just a few examples of the wonderful songs contained herein. If you like what you hear, you'll be glad to know that their entire catalog has been remastered and should still be readily available. Personally I'm most fond of their last 4 releases, but if you like what you hear, by all means, work your way back to the beginning. I did.

Shipping damaged casing again.
Pretty good collection of their songs but there are few missing and most importantly run run away is a short version not the album version. But as usual the case is broken thankfully I work right next door to a music store.

Absolutely brilliant.
Slade for the unittiated were an absolutely fantastic band who had more than a few hits back in the seventies. They progressed into a successful rock band having stood in for BlackSabbath at Reading, again having a few a few hits. They knew how too write memorable tunes and are still on the go now, but not the original line up.This collection is mainly comprised of the latter years but the gusto they had back in the seventies remains.A truly stupendous double cd charting a band we could never imagine today.
