A lot more enjoyable than you might suspect...
As long as you are expecting a fun movie rather than a particularly serious one, then there is much to recommend this. An unexpectedly pleasing on-screen chemistry between Samuel L Jackson and Onni Tommila does much to propel the film out of the cheesy territory it could so easily have found itself in had such a mix been lacking, but it is not this alone which makes it work; clearly there was a decision to ape serious action movies in terms of style and pacing. It is this which really makes things work as a mostly played-for-laughs storyline unfolds against the visual and audio backdrop of a 'serious' action movie. Needless to say, a film which sees Air Force One being shot down has quite a bit of CGI (as well as some nice practical effects), yet it is to the credit of the film-makers that they decided to go all out on the effects in spite of the less serious tone of the film, that high end CGI juxtaposes nicely alongside a script which isn't taking itself too seriously. In a similar vein, camerawork, editing, soundtrack and score help tremendously too, these being as good, if not better than that seen most serious action flicks. Seeing Samuel L Jackson playing so against type, as a politician who has to rely on someone else to save him rather than in his usual hard man role is kind of fun too, that said, fans of Jackson are treated to an - admittedly somewhat predictable, but nonetheless enjoyable - nod to his more common screen persona (note that if it wasn't for the F-Bomb Jackson drops in this scene, Big Game would actually be a reasonably family friendly movie; yes there are people killed in it, but for the most part its done without any gore. Supporting actors also help to make things work, largely by playing things deadpan straight; Ray Stevenson, Mehmet Kurtulus and Jim Broadbent are clearly having loads of fun with the task, taking things pleasingly right up to the ragged edge in terms of 'hamming it up' as action movie cliche characters. Of course if you are a fan of classic action movies such as Die Hard and Air Force One etc, then you will enjoy all the numerous nods to serious action movies (everything from Indiana Jones to Cliffhanger gets a little salute), and all whilst appreciating a good fun yarn.

"..LITTLE GEM OF 2015.."
This is not your usual big budget blockbuster action movie but its still just as damn exciting! Especially if your a Sam Jackson fan of course! From the director of Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale which is another little gem of a movie! Sam Jackson plays the president of the united states (who better for the job) he don't need to do much in this movie to be cool anyway, his plane (Air-force one) crash lands in the middle of the wilderness, surrounded by terrorists on the ultimate hunt, he must survive with only the help of a 13 year old boy who is out to prove himself a man and a hunter and a hero, there is plenty of great action that's thrilling and exciting and funny at times all mixed in, its a really easy going movie, not a lot to think about, the set-up is there from the beginning and it could be a tad predictable but sit back and enjoy the ride you go on with the characters! it also stars Ray Stevenson who plays a nasty villain he's quite entertaining too, I think this was a gem and had fun with it no matter how silly it is, give it a chance, nice locations too, great effects, for a smaller movie it has a lot to offer!Blu-ray looks great in HDFeatures include some short interviews with cast and crew and a short VFX breakdown.Region B only, 90-mins, 2015.Comes with a nice lenticular slipcase (while stocks last)

Absurd but enjoyable
Big Game is basically completely ridiculous but is fun enough to get away with it - a breezy little thriller that rolls along in entertaining fashion with a sly sense of humour to keep the mood light. We're in the mountains of Finland where a young lad is sent out hunting on his own - a rite of passage in his particular culture as he seeks to prove to his father and their wider community that he is indeed now a man. Then the President of the USA crash lands nearby (?!) with a team of ruthless terrorists hot on his trail. With the assistance of our young hero, can he stay alive long enough to find his way to safety?Sam L Jackson as the Pres seems to be having a great time, busting out a few snappy one liners and there's plenty of quality elsewhere in the cast. Guns, missiles, fisticuffs, planes, choppers etc etc are all thrown in to the mix amidst some wonderful scenery to make it a rather absurd but guiltily enjoyable ride. It refuses to outstay it's welcome or take itself too seriously and is worth a watch.

Great fun, Samuel Jackson underplays to highlight the child star
Really fun movie, enjoyed it a lot. Apart from the violence the only objectionable aspect is the child's initiation into manhood, through an atavistic blood letting, bagging the biggest possible game, hence the movie's title Big Game. Samuel Jackson is the Preseedent of the United States Motha#£-&%@! What he does well here is to underplay his awesome powerful character, and allow the young child actor to shine, most gracious of the big man.Ray Stevenson plays yet another baddy who duly gets his come uppance in an explosive finale. He may be at risk of being typecast as the villain in perpetuity, methinks he should audition for the next James Bond film as 007? He betrays just about everyone here, not only The President but also his terrorist employer which shows just what a complete cad he is, shame on you Sir! Good to see Jim Broadbent in an interesting role as the Master Spy, wearing glasses emphasises his huge owl like eyes which at times are almost menacing. Not all is as it seems though, the twists! the twirls! Mash up style.A very enjoyable old shool film, somewhat reminiscent of the first Die Hard although the Big Baddy here, lacked Alan Rickman's charisma and magnetic screen presence, playing a fantastic terrorist Hans Grueber with style, dry wit and oodles of eloquent one liners. Alan Rickman was a superb actor and is sorely missed by film aficionados, his memory lives on in his body of work.

Excellent family thriller.
This film keeps your attention & not once do you feel like hitting the fast forward button. The late Ray Stevenson plays a badly with a sense of humour.
