Great Resource. I'm a beginner
Great Resource. I'm a beginner. This is advanced for a beginner. If you are starting your Jiu-jitsu journey, I'd suggest you master the basic moves and have a knowledge of the basics. Because this book is to put together those basic techniques in a sequence given by one of Rickson Gracie's most accomplished and decorated students. Jean Jacques is the technical expert among all his brothers. He is an eight degree red belt if I am correct. I find the techniques in this book educative. The techniques are in a sequence and they are applicable for both gi and no-gi. Master Jean displays the techniques in a way they flow from one technique/position to another. You won't be disappointed for buying this one. Go for it. Oss.

Jiu Jitsu practitioners order this book
If you want to elevate your preexisting Jiu Jitsu game then I highly recommend this book. It won't teach a novice the fundamentals as you need that classroom ins. But if you have some knowledge of the art this will elevate your game on the mat! From a representative family you cannot and will not go wrong with this one.

Best book I've ever had.
My favorite book for a long time. I loaned mine out and never got it back. This purchase is to replace it in my collection.

Great details in this book
Great explanations and pictures... This book has a nice flow to it. I have been enjoying reading it. You should have a good understanding of bjj to better appreciate this book... As the title implies this is not a book for beginners.

The best book for the non-novice student
This book corrects the abomination that was "The Essence of BJJ" by brother Rigan. Black Belt Techniques is beautifully written and photographed, like all the Invisible Cities BJJ books. The best part of the book is the introduction, and a lot of Jean-Jacques's wisdom is in there. Unlike a lot of books, you get the feeling that you are reading the words of a man who is an expert and intends to teach you - like an instructor in real-life, rather than reading a manual of techniques. If you are an experienced BJJ or Judo practitioner, this is the book for you. The text does assume prior knowledge of a lot of the technique involved, and is not a beginners' book. Having said that, I don't think it's aimed at black belts. If it were, I don't think JJ Machado would make any money at all on it.Along with the Renzo/Royler book, this is all you really need in terms of BJJ books. Of course, it's pretty much useless without mats, a training partner and a good teacher.
