Very pleased with this laptop
Very pleased with this laptop, so far. It's light, slim and generally attractive. If I had to be pedantic, I'd say that the speakers are at the bottom of the laptop, which is not ideal. The laptop comes with Windows 8.1, which I personally hate, so I downgraded to my Windows 7 right away. Now, the problem with that was that windows 8 did not allow access to BIOS, so booting from DVD was damn near impossible - it can be accessed by holding the Shift key while pressing Restart, though, which leads you to a list of options, and you gotta pick Troubleshooting, click Change WEFI settings, and restart again, which allows you to reach it, and play with the boot settings, taking Booting from DVD to the top of the list. If you don't know what you're doing, better not try it, though. Another reason why I re-installed Windows was because the disk was not split into partitions the way I'd like it to be, and I prefer them split in at least two drives - bigger one for files, smaller one for OS and software. Of course, that could be done with software, but I wanted a clean start. Last but not least - there was just too much junk pre-installed, all sorts of apps I'd rather not have. I strongly suggest that if you are going to upgrade/downgrade/change OS, you get a copy of the Drivers folder first (it comes with the laptop, I think in the smaller disk partition). Now, when I downgraded to 7, the USB and Wireless were not plug-and-play, so I had to get said drivers on a CD and install them like that, but as soon as you get your Internet going, you can get all drivers from Lenovo support page. You gotta install the integrated Intel VGA before the NVIDIA one, too. Getting the laptop customized to my preferences was a bit of a hassle, but then again - it was personal choice, and it wasn't a problem that couldn't be solved. The machine is good, I was pleased with all the Realtek components (after having to wrestle and eventually toss in the bin an Atheros wireless adapter on my old laptop). I'd definitely add more RAM, though, another 8gb at least. The colors are more vivid than I am used to, but it can be adjusted from the integrated vga's menu. I give it 5 stars, because it's what it promises to be, and it's reasonably priced. It arrived very quickly- before the estimated date, so keep an eye on your email or phone, they sent me a message when it would be delivered, as it requires a signature.
