It WORKS for us but with some TWEAKING!
This stuff works amazing for my seven year old that has a hard time with pill taking. He has a pretty sensitive gag reflex and gets anxiety over thinking about throwing up, etc. Unfortunately the medicine he takes tastes horrible when opened or mixed with food so we really had to get this pill taking thing down pat! This stuff DOES work but there are a few things that should be noted. First, the texture is like a thick, sticky, melted gummy bear. It's hard to get it onto a spoon or in the right place in the mouth for my son because it sticks to everything. I thought it was more jelly like but it is not. For us we put a bit into a spoon and then I spray it with another 'pill glide' liquid substance and mix it so it has more of a fluid texture. I also have done this with a tiny bit of water before I found the pill glide spray and it has worked well too. I have my son hold the spoonful of swallow aid in his mouth and count to 15 and swallow. Then we repeat the process one more time. I then take his pill and cover it with a spoonful of applesauce and he swallows. Most days this does the trick but some days his gag reflex still kicks in although it definitely is not that bad. I definitely think it is worth it but don't be afraid to mix it up to make it work for you!*****UPDATE******We followed the exact routine I described above for about three weeks. One day my son asked if he could try to take his pill without the 'gooey stuff'. I am proud to report that he took his pill like a champ with applesauce only! He no longer needs to use this swallow aid. Woo hoo!

Son doesn't like texture
The company supplying this is very responsive and has great customer service -- immediately sent replacements when my first shipment arrived damaged. I bought this to see if it would help my son swallow pills, which he has beem unable to do. Unfortunately, he found the texture of Swallow Aid to be stringy and sticky and couldn't take it, so it didn't help in our situation.

A life saver for pill spitters.
This is a pretty good product. It seems to work about 80% of the time on my mother who has advanced Alzheimer's disease. She often spits out her meds due to forgetting how to swallow or just not liking the bitter taste of the pills. The one thing that concerns me is that it's impossible to get it out of the tube after it's been refrigerated as recommended after opening. Hopefully it won't spoil by leaving it out.

Great for you!
It didn't work for me. Not as slipper as claim or maybe I should not store it in the medicine cabinet and let it warm up? Don't know but I gave up..

Way better than using yogurt to help swallow large antibiotics
I thought Swallow Aid was just another gimmick and I was hesitant to purchase. I really have a hard time with pills of all sizes and especially large 500 mg antibiotics tablets...so in the past I would make a dash to 7 / 11 and get some yogurt if I didn't have any in the fridge. It just seems so much more economical and convenient than wasting a whole 6oz Yoplait when all I needed was a teaspoon of yogurt to wash down the pills. As an aside I can toss the swallow aid tube into my pocketbook and take it with me or leave it in my cubbie at work. Problem: I have always used yogurt in the past. The big problem I have with yogurt is that it really does not take away the rough edge off the pills and the rough edge is really what gets caught in my throat and makes me gag like a dog. The reason I took the time to write is because if even one person can relate to my experience and benefit than I am most grateful that I was able to help! In short: swallow aid bloooooowssssss awayyyyyyyyy yogurt!!!!!......good night.

A friend recommended we try it
We were hoping it would help with eating (even though we knew it was intended for taking pills) as family memberis on feeding tube and trying to get off it. So it was worth a try and even though I gave it a low rating, I know it isnot a fair evaluation. A friend recommended we try it. I would still recommend it to someone having trouble takingpills.

This is a LIFE-SAVER!!!!!!! My son has a swallow-disorder and he can now swallow pills with this product.
I was skeptical about this product. But my son really needed to swallow tablets, because the liquid version burned his mouth and it took 10 minutes of arguing to get it down him. So I ordered this FABULOUS gel. First I taught him to GULP, one teaspoon of water. (I measured it out every time.) Then we put a dime size amount of gel on a spoon, which he held in his mouth 10 seconds. Making his throat a "slipper race track"! Then we covered the tablet in the gel on a spoon, he put it in his mouth near the back. Then gulped the measured 1 tsp. of water and Ta-Da he swallowed the tablet!! We did that for 2 weeks, then began weaning back on the gel, and finally he doesn't need it at all! We still have to measure 1 tsp. of water. Otherwise he panics with too much water and the pill floating around. We didn't even finish 1/2 the tube. Even with my son's severe reflux, severe gag reflex and swallow-disorder, he learned to EASILY swallow his pills. I've told every one of his doctors, because I know so many other kiddos could benefit from this gel.

It's great and helps me get over the fear of choking ...
I just ordered my 3rd and 4th tube of this stuff. It's great and helps me get over the fear of choking on my medicine. The first tube I got was more syrupy and didn't always work as well but the next one was thicker and makes it easy to form a slippery gel cap around the pill. I still usually cut my larger pills in half before putting this on them just to make it really easy.It works for me probably 95% of the time which is way better than not being able to swallow a pill at all. Would recommend. Also a cool thing is that while I was taking medication regularly with this product, I found that after a while I could swallow the pill on my own because I'd grown comfortable enough going through the motions knowing that the pill would definitely go down and not get stuck in my throat. However, I always end up going back to this stuff for the start of each new round of prescriptions since so much time passes in between.
