I didn’t expect this little guy to be much of a sharpener. This works as well as the $100 sharpener that I purchased for my classroom. I bought this for my daughter. I expected her to be frustrated as she tried to hold a pencil, keep it on a flat surface, and turn the crank; but she sharpens her pencils with ease. Once you insert the pencil it is locked in! You don’t have to have the sharpener on a flat surface you can hold it in your hand. It sharpens a pencil to the perfect point and the shavings tray is way to empty. I’m getting another for myself because when I asked to use her sharpener, she’s reluctant to say yes…

This little guy is incredibly cute, which is the basis of its appeal. My daughter is sharpening every pencil she can find!I have to admit I probably haven’t sharpened a pencil in like 6 years, so I was happy to see how this one “sucks” pencils in and kinda holds them in place so your child will have that hand freed up.That’s a good thing with any kid but in this case almost required. And this is the major downside — without a clamping or suction feature you need one hand to actually hold the entire sharpener. Otherwise it’s impossible to turn the crank. Also even with holding it tightly even I struggled to get a totally new pencil started as it’s not so hefty or sturdy enough to counterbalance the force needed for those first few turns.The shavings holder is small but my child seems to enjoy watching the detritus add up and then tossing them. That compartment is also easy enough to remove and slide back for a relatively adroit 5 year old.It’s sharpens incredibly well so any enthusiastic child can get points to a damaging degree of pointiness — just a heads up. Oh and not really for crayons!!Overall it’s so darn adorable and does the trick after a mini tutorial with your child. And the shavings don’t seem like they’ll escape or that compartment will randomly come out ... which is key. Not perfect but a solid 4 stars.

I was worried about how they would do a handheld sharpener, but it works great. When you turn the crank the mouth kind of rolls the pencil in. It’s really cute to watch the owl eat the pencil :)

Have been using this since 2018 and it still does an incredible job at leaving my pencils sharp and perfect! This old thing has never failed me.

This is one of the be things I’ve ever bought. My 4 and 5 year olds can sharpen their own colored pencils easily. I don’t even have to sharpen them anymore! The pencil goes into the “mouth” and is held there while you turn the crank, so you don’t have to hold the pencil and turn the crank at the same time. I highly recommend this sharpener! And it’s adorable!

Hold and sharpen! When you start to turn the crank, it grabs your pencil, so you can just hold the owl and turn it. No need for suction or help. Best sharpener we have bought. If you want your pencil any sharper than this, you might be very particular! Works best on regular round and octagonal. On colored pencils, the tip will is so fine at the top, it always breaks off a tiny bit. The shaving drawer stays tightly closed and is easy to dump. This is a very tidy sharpener. My 6 year old and I use it all the time! There is no wear, and it will likely have a very long life!🦉🤗
