Not what I thought it was.
I thought I had finally found and purchased the movie I had watched in school, many, many years ago. Instead, it was a Documentary film about the Woman on the Island. And I know I had the name of the title correct, but the story is way off and different. In the story, I remember, Visitors had come to the Island, hunting for Otter skins. They had made an agreement with the Natives to pay a certain amount for a certain number of otters. The visitors reneged on the agreement and there was a battle, where most of the Natives were killed. The visitors had guns, the Natives didn't. The few surviving members of the tribe left the Island. The young girl saw that her little brother had accidentally been left behind. She jumped out of the boat and swam back to shore. Wild dogs had attacked her brother and were killed by one of them; leaving her all alone. In time, she befriended the dog that had killed her brother.I can't remember how the story ended. But I think her, the dog, died, and shortly after, other visitors came along, taking the girl (who is now a grown woman) off the Island. It was a wonderful story. But I'm disappointed, because, (One) This is only a Documentary. And 2, the storyline is not at all the same as I remember it. I was generous, in that I gave it 2 stars, instead of only one.

Insight into Island of the Blue Dolphins
This is not the actual movie of Island of the Blue Dolphins, but it is a valuable tool for after watching the movie. This DVD offers insights directly from the author which analyze the themes of the story. Furthermore, the DVD discusses how the author meticulously built the story into an iconic novel. I found it all quite interesting.

A New Family Favorite!! Very Well Done Documentary!!!
My children all loved watching the VHS movie "Island of the Blue Dolphins" and reading the book "Island of the Blue Dolphins" while growing up. I was looking for a DVD copy of the movie which I found at the "vermontmoviestore.com and came across this documentary about the woman who inspired the best selling book. I found it so inspiring to actually see the island where the story took place and all of the exploring and information that we now have about this island, including artifacts and the woman who survived there alone for 18 yrs. I was so thrilled with this DVD I bought it again as a gift for my grandchildren. So now we watch both movies consecutively. We now have a VERY favorite movie time!! Very well done documentary!! Thank you so much!!! Love this DVD!

Documentary about "Karana," The Lost Woman
This is a well-made, high-quality documentary with several interviews, filming on the actual island, and a great clip of the archeologists excavating the contents of "Karana's" possible personal box. It is a valuable tool for teachers and would be a great follow-up for anyone who is interested in archeology, mysteries, or remembers this book from their childhood. My class reads this every year, and they are fascinated when I tell them at the end of the book that it is based on a real person. Although I believe this might be a little too long and dry for the average fourth grader, I plan to pick out several portions of this DVD to show the class.

Documentary not a movie
My mistake....I ordered this in haste thinking it was the Island of the blue dolphin movie I had watched as a kid. But it’s a documentary. I’m disappointed but my 11 year old said it’s interesting. I bought it because he had just finished the book.
