It has basic things...but nothing more.
I was looking for a book that will take care of my summer trip to Colorado, and I did not find this book too helpful. It would have been more helpful if the book could highlight a few restaurants/hiking trails/points or shops worth visiting. It was my first time visiting Colorado, and it didn't mention anything about access road/trail closure in June.If you didn't want to spend time doing extra search for your trip and just wanted to follow "the best" or "must visit" things on a guide book, this may not be adequate. Although it has good, general information on major cities and towns in Colorado, almost all of which you can find online. If you are looking for a guide book that has insider tips or detail information that make you say "I wish I had known", this book is probably not it.

Mediocre and very disappointing
The Moon gujidebooks have been one of my standard references for over 20 years. I still have a mid-1990s Moon "Colorado" guide by Stephen Metzger that I have used numerous times. I decided it was time to update since we were planning a trip to Southern Colorado in the Fall. The new Moon "Colorado" by Steve Knopper was the obvious choice but I must say this guide is a major disappointment. The first disappointment was the total lack of any information on the little town of La Veta in Southeastern Colorado--one of our destinations. Unlike Metzger's Moon guide, the new edition doesn't even mention La Veta. It barely mentions the gorgeous Cuchara Valley. Luckily, I also ordered "The Colorado Guide, Edition 5" at the same time. That book includes significantly more information on all areas of the state than this Moon guide. While the Moon is a newer edition, "The Colorado Guide" is a much better choice, proving that something brand new is not always the best.I would pass on this book. While it's not truly wretched, it is mediocre in comparison to "The Colorado Guide" and the previous Moon "Colorado" guide.

Fairly accurate reviews. would have liked to have seen more on the actual area we were visiting, specifically more on the restaurants

Moon Handbooks- Travel Books
Moon Handbooks/Travel Books are the BEST. More details, more side trips, more information than any other travel books on the market. Don't leave without a Moon Handbook!

Not as good as other Moon travel guides
I have used Moon travel guides for trips to Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Grand Canyon, and Lake Tahoe. All have been very well written and very useful. However, the focus of the Colorado guide seems to be more on skiing, museums, and night life rather than accommodations, food, and national and state parks/scenery excursions. The writer's style seemed a little different from the other books, and I think his own personal interests directed what he decided to include/exclude from the book.
