Perfect for getting reaquainted with the game!
I stopped playing the game in 1993 when 2nd edition was all the rage so I picked this up to get reaquainted with the game because there were staff/students who wanted to form an afterschool club to play this and I was asked to participate. This is a great starter kit to learn all of the new game mechanics. Having a background from 30 years ago helped me pick it up fairly quickly, but this will give the complete beginner a real good overview of the basic game before getting into the heavier modules and mechanics of AD&D.The seller I bought this from, Dream Shopping (item ID#: B07D5ZL8WB - use this in Amazon's search bar and it will take you directly to Dream Shopping's offering), really takes this set and makes it worth picking up. They also provide an additional six full sets of polyhedral dice, and a link that will also give you downloadable PDF files of the Basic Rule book, pages of printable monster tokens, pregenerated characters/NPCs, a DM's screen, map grids, printable blank character sheets, and an e-book "How to roll dice and get the best results".All things considered, this is a great pickup for getting either back into the game or starting it for the first time. :-)

Great upgrade to just the starter set...
I purchased this "upgraded" paxkage/kit version of the 5th Edition D&D Starter Set in addition to several of the "Starter Set" only kits (for my kids and a friend to join us,) with the differences being in coming with 6 additional sets of RPG dies (as opposed to the one Set already included in the box) as well as a collection of download able forms, templates and sheets to use with the game.It is well worth it. Well packaged, neatly so, and comes with everything you need as either either noob or as a basic DM to play with 2 to 5 people without anything external.Since the templates, forms and sheets are downloadable and printable, they are completely reusable and therefore make the package pay for itself.NOTE: if you have trouble downloading the forms (in my case it was from a cell phone, but irregardless,) just email the seller via the email address included in the Set and you'll get a prompt response with an alternate way of obtaining the files.Well worth the purchase !!!

Bonus items are easy to obtain by following the directions that come with the kit.
I bought the kit as a quick means, to introduce me into the DM role. With everything that comes in the kit, it really is an easy introduction for both players and DM.I did receive the PDFs for the basic rules, printable monsters, DM screen (horizontal), and 1000 pre-generated characters. When I receive the additional bonus items, I will undoubtedly give a 5 star review.I personally think it was worth the purchase, and again, would recommend it for absolute beginners.Update: The response for the bonus materials was quick, and received all the material that is offered. Yes, you have to print the extra stuff yourself, but the extras are worth it.

Decent starter kit, but beware that’s exactly what this is
I’m an old AD&D player, but I’d long since gotten rid of all my old books and modules from the 80s. Recently, a group of friends expressed interest in trying D&D, so I volunteered to help them run a game. Since I’d never played the 5th edition game and didn’t want to start buying full books this Beginner Set made sense. So, what’s good here? First, the 5e game system is very well designed and more coherent than the older version. It also pays a lot more attention to the “role play” aspect, whereas the old game was first and foremost a combat system with the LARP aspect sometimes feeling like an afterthought. I like the extra sets of dice, the bonus downloadable content. The adventure campaign “Lost Mines of Phandelver” is impressively constructed and presented in a way any DM should be able to run with relative ease. It’s really like 3-4 old school “modules” in one, with a nice overarching framework for the game to operate in. This is solid world building, and it will provides hours of fun game play. The characters aren’t placed on rails and the DM is given good direction on how to handle likely contingencies, should the players choose to do side quests or do things in a different order than anticipated. So what don’t I like? Well, the set provides a printed set of Beginner rules, which in my opinion prove inadequate. The set provides pre-generated pre-printed characters, and I think the idea here was to give people a game that was ready to play right out of the box. Just hand out the pre-made characters, read a few rules, and start LARPING. But since character creation is one of the joys of even playing D&D, this didn’t feel like much of a benefit. And in fact, my players wanted to create characters using races and classes that were NOT in the beginner rule book. The book only gives you Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard as options, with no Tiefling or Dragonborn races. The set does provide you with a link to a more detailed pdf of rules, but even these don’t really measure up to the full Players Handbook. So inevitably, I ended up poring over a pdf copy of the PH someone sent me. My guess is that you’ll end up doing the same.So all in all, a decent offering for the price (if you’re getting the bonus dice and downloadable content), but it’s likely going to leave you wanting more.

Nice starter set
Nice set. It’s fun for everyone to get their own dice set so they feel invested in the rolls…especially for younger players. So it’s nice that the set includes a bunch of extra sets. I haven’t ran through the adventure yet, but looking forward to running it for my family soon! I hear it’s very beginner friendly so I’m hoping my nephew will enjoy this as his first intro to D&D.
