Converted to Floating - My Trials & Tribulations
I'm a 55 year old woman recently separated and bought a new home and wanted to make it mine. I saw this entertainment center and thought it would look wonderful in my large living area and I chose bright orange and grey colors. I thought it would make a statement. Ok so after searching and searching, I actually found it on another site for $570 and I bought it, not realizing that I didn't get the concrete grey, but a marble sort of grey (same manufacturer, different seller). The day it arrived someone actually posted a picture of theirs here on Amazon and I realized how small it was, ugh. Onward, the marbled grey still went with my colors and I was bound to make this work and didn’t want to pay for shipping to return it. I thought my ex was going to help me put it together, but as separations go, no help. Out to the local hardware store, bought myself a screw driver and off I went. A few tears, some sobbing and near heart failure that I had messed up the very first piece, I was able to undo my mistake. I didn't start with the large bottom box as the instructions say to do, instead I started with the small bottom box. That was a big help in learning what I needed to do moving forward. That is, the little grey round things shouldn’t be turned until you have the screws in to grab them and make them tight. The instructions, oh my the instructions, no words, just pictures, and as a very first beginner, it was difficult. But I’m a fairly intelligent person and I was determined, so many hours/days/weeks later, I did put it together all by myself. Having said that, I had some friends over at hanging time and I had to have my friends husband, tweak the doors and tighten a few places. While I was putting it together, I kept looking at the size and realized it was just going to look silly in this room. Eureka! - I thought, how about making it a floating entertainment center? Off I went investigating how I could hang it. I bought three 5” long French Cleat Picture Hangars here on Amazon that said they would hold 100 pounds. Well they would, except that I didn’t realize I needed long ones so they wouldn’t tilt after you hung it, ugh again. In the meantime, I had still only partially put it together. I realized that if I was going to hang it, I needed to keep the back off so the plugs would be positioned in the inside middle of the long box. It was too late for the small box, I had already assembled it with the back on. It was also at this point that I thought it wouldn't look good with the two Cabinets with the doors on one side as they have it pictures, but placed on the outsides with the shelves in the middle as you can see in my pictures. The hanging was another story. First as I mentioned above, I bought 5” long French Cleats and after hanging the cabinets were tilting because they weren’t long enough. Didn’t want to lose the time my friends were here to help, so off to the hardware store and I bought more of these only longer. Many holes in the walls later, the cabinets leaned forward away from the wall after putting the TV on it. Two things to note: because it leaned forward there was enough room to drop the TV cable and plugs behind the cabinets into the cabinet on the side with the back off. And second, after my friends left, over a few day’s time, I realized the French Cleats were bending away from the wall because of the weight of the TV. Back to the store, bought stronger and longer French Cleats. A small fortune now spent on different hanging items and help from my friends we got it hung up. I had a small 40” TV at the time and it worked for the moment. We still didn’t have the side cabinets with glass doors hung, back to the store to buy yet another set of French Cleat Picture Hangars. I would have used what came with the boxes to hang, but it wouldn’t go together with these white things that were supposed to fit in predrilled holes, argh. Ok another night of friends over to hang the boxes and how to do the cabinet lights? Should we drop wires down the walls?, which might have worked, if, big IF, I hadn’t put the back on the smaller cabinet because there would have been nowhere to plug into unless I drilled holes through the sides of each cabinet to run it through the insides of the bottom cabinets. So I decided to skip the colored changing lights and I bought the little touch lights that I could stick up. Ok good, bottom done, cabinets hung. Shelves next.Except now I decided that I should buy the big 70” Smart TV I wanted so that I wouldn’t have to move shelves later and make more holes. What was I thinking? The TV was much heavier than my small one and almost pulled the French Cleats away, not from the wall mind you as it was screwed into studs, but the cleat itself was bending away again!! Egad! We put the TV on the floor and off I went to do more research. Here on Amazon, I found Heavy Duty Black Steel Countertop Support Brackets, Yes, I thought, I got this!! I bought four of them thinking 3 for the big bottom and 1 for the small bottom. Friends over again, Ugh one was not enough for the small one, once we put the TV on it, it started to tilt again sideways. We had to keep the French Cleats Picture Hangars too, because the brackets were not long enough under to keep the cabinets from falling forward. Ok back to Amazon, bought two more Countertop Support Brackets. Another night of inviting friends over, finding studs, more holes drilled in the wall. And finally big TV settled, but, yes a big BUT now there wasn’t enough room behind the cabinets to run the wires down because the brackets kept it from leaning forward leaving no room for wires. So onward, this will not get in my way, we drilled a big hole in the top of the large cabinet to drop wires into the center where the power was.Can it get worse? Time to hang shelves. Using the holes provided on the back of the shelves we used extra long screws, got them hung and everything seems great! I had an old marbled vase, a beautiful clock and these little black bulb decorations I bought on Amazon and several other items. Getting ready to take pictures and then CRASH, top shelf fell onto bottom shelf, everything fell, everything broken, glass everywhere. Oh my!! Back to Amazon, bought some picture hanging gripping things and we drilled and screwed them on the back of the shelves and hung them again (with some small dents in the shelves that happened during the crash). Back to Amazon bought my little black bulb decorations again, but haven’t quite decided what else to get now that my vase and clock are gone. So it’s half decorated as you can see in my pictures. And I still haven’t decided what to put in the Glass Cabinets, maybe I’ll buy some nice plates or something.I give a 3 star rating because I do like the entertainment center and they did put the dimensions correctly, but I clearly didn’t pay attention. However, their picture is a bit deceiving and makes it appear much larger. The directions are not great and could use some clarification. The hanging cabinets with doors I couldn’t get the back pieces together because the holes were not big enough. I spent probably at least $300 or more on hanging hardware, but again that was my choice because I decided to make it floating. I hope this write up helps someone who might decide to do the same thing. Save yourself the time and money and buy longer Heavy Duty Countertop Support Brackets straight away.Back to the price I paid, I don’t think it’s fair to tell you the site I purchased it at, but if you do a Google Search on Baros Entertainment Center you’ll find it (here on Amazon it’s called Duros but search for Baros). When I bought it was $570 but has since gone up to $706 (free shipping) for the “Beton Grey” (not concrete grey which I really wanted) but the picture shown was Concrete Grey and I didn’t realize it was different until it arrived. Still a better price then here on Amazon, but not if you really want the Concrete Grey. I wish Amazon would price match.

Much smaller than it appears in the picture. It's ...
Much smaller than it appears in the picture. It's only suitable for a 32" TV in a small space. If you have long walls and or high ceilings, it will not look right.
