VENTALW45 Original Humidifier in White - Filter-Free Evaporative Humidifier for Spaces up to 600 ft²

It has been over 5 years since my original purchase. I now own dozens of these either in my homes or in my laboratories or offices. I use the LW25's in guest rooms or smaller rooms and the LW45 (and now the new 6 series). I have to say the Venta is the best of all humidifiers, on all points. It has the most intelligent and easy disassembly of any humidifier I've owned, making cleaning it a simple breeze. It is quiet on high speed and pumps out a LOT of humidity.Every single component is EASILY replaceable and very inexpensive, direct from Venta Germany (with free shipping). No other humidifier on the market has every single component replaceable. NONE. Something breaks on ANY other humidifier...you must buy a whole new unit.These are pricey for what they offer and has rather simplistic technology... but they ARE effective and very quiet. If I was going to space on a long journey, you would want to take one of these. With the minimal amount of moving parts and components, this has a very low failure rate, and in the rare situation when it might fail, at least you're not at a total loss and can easily replace the failed component. However I have used mine 24/7/365 for over 5 years and JUST this year in 2019 I replaced a single motor in my LW25, for $30 direct from Venta.For me, dust levels around all of my robotic and computer equipment was a major focus of effectiveness. In my laboratories maintaining the precise humidity is critical for the specimens. I had purchased over 23 other humidifiers and none of them compared to the Venta.Some reviews complain about the grime or "white crust" in the humidifier after a few weeks. This is your poor quality hard water mixed with dust that the Venta has collected from cleaning your air. This is not some magical biological production from the Venta. Cmon people, simple science. You do not have to purchase the bacteriostatic agent from Venta (the cleaning fluid) although I recommend it because it is better for the plastic (less chemically abrasive) and reduces the amount of any algae or bacteria in the unit over time. If you are cheap you can always buy a $3 bag of pool shock (Calcium Hypochlorite) and mix half a TSP with 1 gallon of water. The $3 bag should make approximately 3500-4000 gallons, so as long as you store it properly, it will last you a lifetime. Apply 30ml of the Calcium Hypochlorite (pool shock) mixture to your (already filled with clean water) Venta. This will assist in bacterial reduction but it is more chemically abrasive than the Venta fluid. I have used this method in a couple of my laboratory units and this has not damaged them over several years, however if you dose too much of the Calcium Hypochlorite, the area will smell chlorinated like a pool/spa.Keeping the unit from any direct sunlight also helps tremendously in preventing any bacterial buildup.If you choose to not use anything at all, over time you will experience calcification on the inside, the dust being captured by the fans will eventually fall into the water reservoir and eventually the (over time) fishy smell of the algae and bacteria will attract fungus gnats. Real swampy ecosystem without cleaning. Just like any humidifier on the market. Except that this one is easily cleaned...and again, has all replaceable parts.For my home...With 1 LW45 Venta inside a 600sq ft room, there is a large difference in reduction of airborne dust and smells within 15 minutes. Sinuses feel much clearer with humidified air. This means no crusty boogers and a less likelihood of snoring. Specifically during Winter when the heater is running more, the humidity in the house plummets, causing dry nose and dry lips, the Venta units fix that. Simple science people. So for $400 you get cleaner air which is better for your skin and lungs and no crusty boogers or snoring from your spouse. I'd say that's $400 well spent. Only wish I'd have purchased the white one.

I have three of these incredible humidifiers that we use to humidify about 2400 sq ft of our main living space and the master suite. First as humidifiers they are EXCEPTIONAL! They are amazingly quiet and do an excellent job of humidifying our space. We live in Southwest Colorado where the humidity is 10% at best in the winters, with these humidifiers we can easily keep the rooms at about 50% or higher with one refill a day. That includes our Great Room that has 20' ceilings and is 600 sq ft on it's own, an incredible volume of space to humidify! These units are AMAZINGLY QUIET!!! One sits about 8 feet from the TV and on the highest setting doesn't interfere at all. I have a Vornado Evap3 humidifier that works well for it's output but next to these it is no comparison for noise, the Venta humidifiers are MUCH MORE QUIET than the Vornado.Second, as air filters it is INCREDIBLE how well these do!!! We have forced hot air heat and before the Venta's we could see a lot of particles floating around the air as a sunbeam moved about the Great Room throughout the day. That's with top of the line furnace filters too. Now that we have the Venta's running you have to look long and hard to see any particles floating in the sunbeam - it is truly an amazing difference. Our allergies and dry noses (dry no more) thank us immensely - it's all gone, no sneezing, sniffling, dry bloody noses any more!! Our piano that needed almost daily dusting now goes for a week or more before we can even tell that there is a very slight amount of dust. Everything in the house is much cleaner! And we love not having to buy filters for the humidifiers!There are two cons in my opinion. One con to these is related to their amazing ability to filter the air. With all the dust and other gunk they pull out of the air they do need regular (10-14 day) cleaning. Cleaning the base is simple but the process of cleaning the top is cumbersome and time consuming. I'm happy to do it because I love the clean, humid air, but only wish the design of the top was such that it was as easy to clean as the bottom. While I mention this as a con please don't let it stop you from buying these ingenious machines.The other con is really a nit-pick on my part... the cords kept getting in the way when I removed the top to refill the water and then put the top back on. Frequently the cord would get in the way of proper seating, a minor nuisance. However, with all the other great engineering in these machines it seems like an oversight. I picked up some of these mini hooks Command Mini Clear Hooks with Clear Strips, 18 Hooks with 24 Adhesive Strips per Pack and stuck them on the outside of the humidifier just above where the cord comes out. Looped the cord through those and now no more cord hassles when replacing the top during a refill.

This humidifier worked great but I am unsure about the long term cost. I assume the high price point is due to the "filterless" aspect. While it is technically filterless, you still have the ongoing cost of water treatment. I also found out that using softened water created a "salty" residue that was not easy to clean off of the discs. It does a great job at humidifying larger rooms where needed, however, I am not sure it is worth spending the extra money, having to treat the water every time you refill the tank with water. The long term costs might make this much more expensive than using a cheaper humidifier with replaceable filters that do not require water treatment. Might just be a matter of preference.

After using this product for over 1 year... I will be purchasing another one for my apartment. It is soooo easy to fill with water and no filters!!!!! It lasts the whole day and helps clean the office air.Highly recommended!!!! The ease of use makes it worth the expense.

The Venta LW45 I received has a defective power adapter cord. The fan cycles on and off about every half second which causes the fan turn in a slow jerky motion. The blue power light and numeric speed indicator also flash intermittently. Pressing the speed button doesn’t change anything and pressing the power button won’t shut off the unit. Fortunately, I also have a smaller Venta unit (LW25) that works well. I swapped fans and the problem persisted, so then I swapped the power adapter cord and the problem disappeared -- the LW45 worked perfectly. It appears that a defective power adapter was cycling the power which caused the jerky fan operation. If the vendor quickly sends me a replacement power adapter that works, I will revise my rating.Dec. 29, 2018 Update: After contacting Venta Customer Service, a replacement power adapter was promptly shipped to me via FedEx. This power adapter worked properly and now my Venta LW45 works as it should. It runs quietly and provides the needed humidification to prevent itchy dry skin and static shock during our cold dry winters in Western Canada.

No more filters to change. You have to wash the disks on a regular basis so the humidifier does not loose any efficiency.It is an easy job that can be completed in a short time. The Venta Treatment additive works well.

really simple concept (those are the best kind) with no filters, no maintenance, no awkward water filling procedures. almost silent operation - if I want to pay attention to hear it and everything else is absolutely quiet, I can hear it, but it's far from noticeable or annoying. it evaporates amazing quantity of water - about 4L/1 gallon per day and has been keeping the humidity steady in our condo at around 40-45% range for the past couple of weeks through huge fluctuations of outside temperature and humidity (ie between -10C and +10C and back to -5C in 24h, outside humidity between 15% and 85% in 12hrs, and so on,,,). very pleasant. very pleased. if only the water could be plumbed in so you don't have to fill it, that'd be cherry on a cake. I also recommend the trolley/wheeled cart by Venta as it's much easier to roll it around then to carry, especially when it's filled with water.
