This hat is perfect...! I live in the desert Southwest, and spend countless hours out in the desert sun, so I was looking for a hat that would provide enough protection from the sun, and hold up to the weather better than a straw hat does; This hat is it...!Out of the box, the hat was folded into 4ths, but nothing unrepairable... I just sprayed it lightly with water and set it in a towel between my mattresses for a couple hours, and the one crease it had nearly all the way came out...The fit is great. I wear a 7 1/2 cap size, and this fit perfectly, but still had some extra room to play with, and a head adjustment strap to tighten it if needed. I'd say someone who wears a size 8 cap might be able to squeeze into this comfortably, but that's just my opinion. It also has a chin strap that is adjustable, and positioned great so it doesn't bother my ears or dangle in my perifrial vision.This hat is light weight, and made of a nice breathable material. It also has meshed siding on the cap that keeps you fresh, and even cooler in a light breeze.I'm 6'1" with broad shoulders, and this thing fits me literally from shoulder to shoulder, and protects my neck, back, shoulders, face, and even part of my chest area, depending on the time of day... I also ran the brim under the sink for a bit, and it seems to be water repellant... I literally shook it bone dry in two swats...The material feels similar to ripstop fabric, and the stitching is well placed and in good shape, aside from a few stray strands that you usually get from brand new items... There's is a manufactured seam for folding and storing, which I thing is great! It packs up great, and pops out just as good. I wouldn't cram it in the bottom of a bag, but then again, I don't think I'd do that with a lot of hats...Pros: lightweight, breathable, water repelant, super large brim, lots of shade, good price, packableCons: shipping method leaves a slight crease, but nothing too bad. And that's pretty much it.Now, just to see how well it takes the weather.So far, 10/10 Would reccomend...!

Okay. So I work outdoors. I have purchased a few hats for my job.For about 6 months, I used a very similar hat that had a smaller brim.With the Los Angeles area being in a pretty rough heat weave, (and the fact that it is sunny the vast majority of the year anyway) I needed a hat upgrade!This hat does the job! It fits me comfortably (I'm about 5' 8" with a relatively "normal" sized head) so I can wear the hat for hours on end. It is able to put up with sweat. What I mean from that, is that while working labor in the hot sun. I sweat a lot. Yet, the fit of the hat is so well, that sweat doesn't just drip down my face (unless I happen to be tilted forward, in which case, I very definitely see how much sweat the hat is saving me from!)The brim is ultra wide. Thus, I am given the extra sun protect that I was seeking.Thoughts. The brim is a shade flimsy. About the strength of a manila folder. It holds it's shape well enough for me not to be bothered by it.The chin strap is fine, but that little dongle they have at the end ain't great. It is a little hard for me to tighten the chin strap so that the hat doesn't fall off my head if I hit a strong gust of wind.The brim IS wide, so you WILL bump into things that you normally would not. That's fine. It is the trade off I choose for the extra sun protection.Definitely happy with my purchase! This hat is functional, light weight, and has survived (at least for 2 months now) long hours outdoors in a construction yard.

The wide brim of this hat is reinforced with 4 staves radiating from the cap of the hat to the outer edge of the brim. Bracing that keeps it from flopping & allow the flat packability. This all makes sense & works as described, BUT what they do not tell you is that when unfolded, the brim is never fully extended away from your body. The 4 sections of the circular brim give it a pyramid affect when worn & your peripheral vision is obstructed as your view is directed straight in front of you, framed in an upside-down V.The packability is my main reason for keeping this hat. It can stand in for an umbrella & does provide the sun protection I need in a pinch, but I would never choose to wear it when I really want to see my surroundings well. I bought a different hat for sightseeing bc this one just frustrated me.

I bought this hat specifically for long hikes. Sure it looks outlandishly large but it does exactly what I was looking for a hat to do which is to cover all of my face and even most of my shoulders. Fits slightly snug at the loosest level but I do a slightly larger than average head. I didn't use the chin strap much but when one or two quick gusts of wind appeared it kept the hat from flying off my head. I did have to wear my own headband being that the hat was slightly snug added with sweat coming from my forehead/head.Only complaint would be I wish it had a pony tail hole. There's enough room at the nape of your neck to sit a pony tail (not a bun though) but being I was in a tank top and sweaty my hair kept sticking to my shoulders and knotted up pretty badly. It would of been nicer to have a higher opening where I could feed the pony tail through to sit on top of the brim.

So, I bought this hat for my brother in-law because he spends a lot of time out in the heat and humidity working in his garden. If you have not lived in Ohio the humidity makes you feel ten times hotter. It is an excellent hat and to my surprise my brother in-law loves it. My family liked the hat so much that I bought two more, one for my brother and one for my husband. I will say that this hat is not the cheapest nor is it the most expensive. I decided to purchase this hat because of the reviews and the price was some where in the middle. This hat is great and I would suggest if you want to keep cool when you spend time outside in the heat this is a no brainer! I am now thinking about buying my sister one because she owns two homes and works in her flower gardens a lot.
