Beware of warranty
If you buy this through Amazon, the manufacturer, Clearwater Enviro Technologies, will not register the warranty. The reason I was given is that whoever put it on Amazon is 3rd party reseller and the manufacturer has no control over how the product was handled before the end user obtains. No where is this stated on the Amazon site. Now, you can go to Home Depot and buy the product as Clearwater sold it directly to them. Who says HD can't mishandle the product before the consumer buys it?

Did something, but not what I was looking to improve?
I read all the reviews. I took a water sample before and after the ScaleBaster had been running for 3 months. As you can see by the results of the water testing:1) Most everything is the same2) LESS: Nitrates and Nitrites (could have more bacterial growth, but the water may taste less salty)3) MORE: Alkalinity (water should be less acidc), and More Hardness (which is what I wanted to reduce)I'll do more testing over the year - every 2 months.

Great for hard water relief. No salt needed.
My father installed one in his house and raved about it. I purchased one and installed it with his help. The water changed flavor overnight. Now about a month later, the hard water stains on the shower glass are a thing of the past. This really works!

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!
first of all, the merchant should have disclosed that this item purchased through eBay or Amazon is not eligible for the manufacturer's warranty. You only find this out AFTER buying it and trying to register it. I followed the installation instructions to the letter and 3 months later there is just as much lime coming through in our water as before. YOU MAY AS WELL THROW YOUR $$ OUT THE WINDOW AS BUY THIS WORTHLESS PRODUCT!! NOTHING BUT SNAKE OIL!!

Easy install noticeable difference
For those on the fence about this product, it does what it’s supposed to do. Suspend minerals in the water so you get less buildup on appliances, sinks, shower doors, etc. it’s not going to be night and day or 100% effective. It will alleviate some issues so expect 20% less buildup. I can’t say for how well it does with “cleaning” the pipes unless I cut open the copper and PEX pipes. Without any concrete comparisons the soap is noticeably foamier so it appears to be doing its job. It’s no bubble bath however. Portable hot humidifiers and drinkable hot water boilers show less mineral buildup which had to be cleaned with vinegars every week. Now maybe every month. How does this compare to a salt based system? I’ve had that for many years and that actually removes the minerals from the water leaving a silky feeling water. There is a slight salt taste as well. Since in my current location there isn’t much room for such a system this is the next best alternative. Installed by wrapping the wires on a PEX pipe behind Sheetrock. Luckily there is a door to get access to the main water line and an outlet nearby. Water hardness is 18 grains coming from the local town groundwater. Is the water still hard? Yes as this only suspends the minerals in the water, not removing them as the salt based system. There are pros and cons to either system if you do simple research, however based on 2 month usage it’s easy to install, no tools required, and no permits since no pipes are being cut. If I had a choice I would get the salt based system instead of still feeling the hard water, more moisturizing, still but less cleaning of minerals on surfaces.Just understand how this works and your expectations will be set.
