I connected mine straight to low voltage. The base doesn't care what the voltage is unless in exceeds the dielectric strength of the wire insulation or the ceramic, think thousands of volts. **Q: Are longer leads available ? (nine inches will not reach the end if the upright shaft for the path light (FX, about 12 inches)** A: I had same issue. Easy fix. I used wire that I connected to the leads with crimp connectors. I put a little silicone grease inside the crimp connectors prior to pushing the wire to avoid corrosion.
