GE JVW5301SJSS Wall-Mount Pyramid Chimney Hood

This looks great, multiple fan speeds, lights are bright and fan is relatively quiet. It's a bit more expensive than the no name lower brands, but WELL below the high end ones that don't look or function any better.

So moved into a 20 year old house with a 20 year old under cabinet, non-vented range hood. Every time I did steaks or cooked with a wok I had a 3 alarm fire alarm go off. I knew I needed to get a more powerful exhaust hood that exhausted to the outside. It ended up being a big job and I hired a contractor to remove the cabinet, install the hood and create a vent to the outside wall. I got GE b/c you just see it everywhere in new home builds and it looks good. It also matches the slide-in range.It has the classic, prototypical high end range hood look. I also didn't want any hassles in that I didn't want to have any service issues which is another reason I went with GE b/c I figure I could get service anywhere. Delivery was fast. Box was damaged but I checked prior to signing and everything was well protected. On the positive, it looks awesome and works super well. Since I have a gas range, I put it always on at least low anytime I use the oven just in case for carbon monoxide. For wok cooking, even with high oil frying, not a peep out of the fire alarms. Don't have to even open windows/no smells. I was a little worried I needed more CFM but it's more than enough and never even had to use the boost mode. Very high quality look with nice lighted buttons. However, the stainless hood seems like it has some minor imperfections in the bends but only really noticeable to OCD people like myself. My big knocks are it really is expensive at $450 on sale and I had to spend $130 extra for the extension for a ceiling that I don't consider very high.***UpdateSo less than a year later the fan blower motor is shot. It’s developed a high pitch whine like the bearing has gone out and fluctuates from a grinder noise to a high pitch cat whining. Very disappointed in the lack of longevity. Good news is after contacting GE warranty, they sent a tech and he’s going to send me a new blower that I an install myself. Very easy, one plug and two screws. In any case, very disappointed that a fan that is supposed to last 10+ years doesn’t last one year. So I’ve had issues with most everything I buy now days and these are all well known brands GE, Google, Viewsonic, ...all expensive products with not how they used to build them quality. So now I realize above everything make sure the company has a good warranty. All have been addressed through warranty service.

This is not a high quality product. Cheap material to install unit. I had to get more robust hangers and screws. Chimney goes together poorly and again with a cheap system to attach it to wall. The anchor units were very cheap plastic and did not work. Once installed looks only ok. Fan works ok.This product is not worth it. Cheap materials, bad design and install was a headache. Buy something else
