Beautiful Bible except paper quality not great...
-The old standard...best chain-reference system but limited in-text notes and maps. Extensive notes, charts, maps at the back of the text. Nice off-set printing style, good for preaching from. Large margins for notes. Binding options varied (excellent: Nelson Signature Series {calfskin leather is soft/supple but text is faint and paper quality is average with ghosting noted} to Good: Kirkbride Morrocan leather to Adequate: Genuine leather.) Older French Morrocan leather bindings (pre-90's) are unparalleled in binding but it seems to have declined in quality more recently. This is a bulky, heavy Bible to carry around (over 2400 pages, i.e. not very portable). The Signature series calfskin leather is beautiful, but the paper quality is suspect...thin with significant ghosting. Felt tip ink pins will bleed through. Nice to keep on the shelf for reference though.

No doubt about it!
There's no question that this edition of the Thompson Bible series is the one to buy. The smyth-sewn binding and calf-skin leather will last a lifetime. On the down side: paper stock, whilst of quality, is way too thin for prolific note writing, though there is plenty of room for it; and the thickness of the leather cover is not up to the standard of the smaller Signature Series NKJV ultra-thins I have bought (which have thicker covers). If you're looking for an NKJV for your primary study Bible, or better still you want to give a gift for/of life, then place your order today. (There is no presentation page in this edition, which I'm glad about.) And, again i must include in a review, Amazon are fantastic people. BUY FROM NO-ONE ELSE! AMAZON IS "THE MAN"!

Beautiful Bible
Shopping for bibles ? I found out while searching for bibles just how many different types there are. Your choice will depend upon your own preference and usage. The Thompson Chain Reference Study Bible: Signature Series Edition is just beautiful. Qualities I like : The leather is really soft, large print, gold trimmed pages, well made, two page markers, and various study helps in the back. Qualities not so much to my liking : The bible is HUGE ! The study features in the back almost double the size. There isn't a lot of room for notes in the margins. If you are looking for a bible this is of excellent quality.

Signature Series......
I have not received my copy of Nelson's Signature Series Thompson Chain Reference, but if the binding is anything like the other Nelson Signature Series Bibles, it will certainly be worth the wait. The binding is absolutely flawless with the finest of leathers, papers, and binding. One would be hard pressed to find a more luxuriously bound Bible anywhere. IMHO, I would have to say that the Signature Series is right up there with Cambridge University Press' Bible binding and printing.

Thompson Bible
The Book came and the seller said it is new and it is not new. The cover is bent top and bottom, and on the inside of the book pages are Highlighted only a few. If he or she is going to sell something they need to make sure it is new and don't send a used book.Other than that the book is good.

Buy the Kirkbride. . .
I can only echo was a prior reviewer wrote. I've had Thompson Bibles for nearly 30 years, all Kirkbride. My oldest, a KJV, is still in very good shape after countless uses. I purchased this one for the price, and wanted the NKJV. Construction is just plain lousy--there is no comparison with the Kirkbride Bibles, that really don't cost much more. Pages started coming out of this one. I have since replaced it with a Kirkbride-made one. I should've known better--Nelson Bibles have always been bottom feeders in the Bible market. If you have any doubt as to Kirkbride quality, visit their web site.As for the Chain Reference system, it remains the most comprehensive study Bible ever made. Its value is multiplied because, unlike Scofield, Ryrie, McArthur and the others, it is theologically completely unbiased. The purpose here is only to facilitate Bible study, not reading someone else's slant. I'll admit, I've had a pile of 'reference' Bibles with all those little numbers in a center or side column. I never used them. The Thompson system, with not only the chains but topics, works perfectly for me. I've given away several of these Bibles because I can pass them along with the knowledge that I'm not expressing some other author's views.
