GHH NEC Chipset 720202 34mm ExpressCard to USB 3.0 Adapter Card 2 Ports

Simple to install but difficult to activate, and not compatible with all USB 3 devices. It won't recognize my Toshiba USB3 portable HDD.

Decided I would take a chance, even though it doesn't explicitly say it supports OS X. I have an early 2009 17" MacBook Pro, running OS X Mavericks and this card is working great! I can't verify the speed, but it does seem very fast.While it does include drivers, they are on a mini-CD, which if you are MacBook owner, know is useless.Keep the card out of your MacBook for now:To get a driver that works on OS X (the below is mostly stolen from another reviewer with some modifications, but it works - credit it to the reviewer but s/he is identified only as "Amazon user")Do a google search for "MultiBeast Mavericks" (or whatever version of OS X you have) and you should find a post from tonymacx86 talking about the release. (there is one for Mountain Lion, Lion, and Snow Leopard as well). You'll have to register for the forum to download the MultiBeast installer, then when you run it follow this path:Drivers -> Miscellaneous, then check "USB 3.0 - 3rd Party", and click install on the lower right of the window.After installation is successful, turn the computer off. Plug the card in and turn on the computer. It should now work!One more thing - I ordered this July 25th, and was told it would not arrive until Aug 25th - Sept 8th. It arrived today!

I search for a card specifically with the NEC chipset because I had had a good experience with one in the past. My previous card had to be replaced due to it dropping connections eventually due to the hardware failing but, it put in a good two years of service before it started failing. For a $12 component, I didn't think that was too shabby.Unfortunately, immediately upon receiving this card, I experienced problems. My drives would spin up loudly indicating power fluctuations and then they would disconnect randomly every couple of minutes. When I went to restart, my laptop would not boot into Windows with the card inserted. This indicated to me a hardware failure.I contacted the seller to return the device and they sent me a new set of drivers to test out which did not help at all. I was worried that this was a bigger issue than just my specific card so I did not want a replacement and thankfully the seller was kind enough to offer me a refund if I send the device back. Their return process was not straight forward and I was given multiple addresses in China to send it to so I'm not sure if it made it to its intended destination but either way the seller refunded my purchase. Unfortunately I was out the money to ship it back so I only recouped some of the purchase price.I would recommend steering clear of this device and looking at the Gmyle version with the Asmedia chip that I have installed and working now.

After trying 2 others that were DOA this one works well with my flash drives. Ports are close but as long as you aren't using an highly protected drive that is extra wide it is not a problem. I have not used it with a "full speed" HD or SSD so I can't say if it hits the max transfer rate or not. It arrived very fast, long before the scheduled delivery date.

It's works but only with a Flas Drive. It don't have enough power for external device like a Hard Drive

This is a poor product. I based my purchase on 3 earlier reviews; however, for my Sony Vaio, running Win7, is not without problems. Firstly, the driver, which came with the mini DVD, is not executable but a rar file. You need an extractor, like 7-zip, but once unpacked, it does not install anyways. Secondly, you need to search after the possible driver by Googling plus an additional updated firmware to work properly. Thirdly, this connector does not recognize all 3.0 USB devices. I could only manage get my Seagate external hard drive to work. Fourthly, the ExpressCard is not flush against the PC. It sticks out 1/8”. Fifthly, the transfer rate seems slower than my expectation.I have another USB 3.0 ExpressCard which works without a hitch which I consider product should be, i.e., a fast transfer data rate, a driver works from get-go, device flush against the laptop, and work with many devices.

I had to put something in my Expresscard slot. I'm not sure it's up to the 3.0 spec but they work fine. Thanks

2 low power USB 3.0 ports, thats what you get. It didn't work with my Toshiba USB 3.0 External HD. Had to buy a USB 3.0 Y to use it.

昔のMacBook Pro（Early2008）にUSB3.0インターフェースを追加したくて購入しました。製品タイトルや表面にルネサスエレクトロニクス（旧NECエレクトロニクス）のμPD720200を匂わせる表記がありますが、ドライバCDにはFL1100の表記が...。Fresco LogicのFL1100ですとmacOSには標準ドライバが用意されているのでそのまま使用することが出来ます。おなじみの表記詐欺（苦笑）か仕様変更かは判りませんが、Macユーザーとしては嬉しい誤算でした。実際に接続してみるとしっかりFL1100として認識され、ちゃんとx1の2.5Gbpsでリンクしました。試しにUSBメモリーを接続してみましたが、問題なく読み書きできて速度も十分に出ています。お値段も安いのでUSB2.0ポートしかない昔のMacBook Proでの利用に便利です。

挿入の時きついです。明らかに逆なのでは？というのが正しい向きとなり、逆に、スムーズに入る方が、逆向きとなり挿入出来ません。これについては、多分設計ミスだと思います（笑）なので一度はめると抜くのが大変。これによりUSBポートが2つ増え、6つのUSBを備えたPCとなりました。接続速度もUSB3.0のMAXではないものの、早いです。接触不良等も、1年以上使用して、今のところ発生しておりません。【補足】ThinkPad X230でも使用可能ですが・・・すさまじい発熱が生じました。12型のPCでUSBポートを5ポート確保できるのは素晴らしいですが、形状が異なるためPC側に隙間が空きます。数日間は問題無く利用できていましたが、後日、途端に発熱するようになりUSBが認識しなくなり、取り出すと、手では触れないほど熱くなっておりました。故障、発火の恐れがあるため使用を中止しました。

繋がらないかも知れないとの意見も合ったが、必要があり取り敢えず購入した。購入その日に、スロットに差し込み確認を行ったが、ドライバーの兼ね合いか動作しない。暫くすったもんだとしていたら、本体が異常に発熱してきたため、使用を中止し、Amazonのサポートセンターへ連絡を行い、返品手続をお願いしました。流石に繋がらないだけなら、まだ暫くは色々と試してみようとも考えたが、発熱し始めた時に、内部でショートしているのか？何らかの問題が発生しているのは明かで有り、どちらにせよハード的な問題であるため、速やかに使用を停止しました。Amazonが発送等を担当している販売先で会ったため、返品及び返金は非常に速やかに対応していただきましたので助かりました。

2年ほど前に購入し、Windows7でも10でもあっさり認識しました。ただ普通のUSBのよう抜き差しすると、繰り返し劣化でコネクタが取れました。それもそのはず、コネクタが面実装の半田付けで コネクタの固定はそれのみでした。抜き差しの応力が集中したんでしょう。このカードのUSBコネクタ周りは広く作られており それも影響したと思います。前兆としてUSB型WiFiを認識しない→ノートPCの冷却台電源としてもファンが回らない→コネクタがもげた、でした。今は1ポート品としてしか使えません。

Lenovo ThinkPad x220, ubuntu 18 環境で使ってみました。なんとか動きました。ポイントは２つ1. Grubに定義を追加する。　以下に詳細https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ExpressCard２．BIOS設定の変更BIOS > CONFIG > POWER > PCI Express Management (Enable > Disable) に変更３．確認方法　以下コマンドを入れて、Renesas とか出来ればよいlspciただ、途中でカードがずるずると出てくる・・　（これはx220側の設計不備？）
