AjinomotoHondashi Soup Base, 2.2-Pound Units

This stuff is amazing. Also for what it’s worth, I’m just now finishing the 2.2lbs (1kg) box I bought 8 years ago. It’s still tastes the same as new. A little goes a long way.

Okay people, this condiment is magic! When family and friends ask “what’s your secret ingredient?” I smile, shrug humbly, and say love and hmm, umami! I use it in pretty much all my soups, tomato and cream gravies and sauces. A tsp or so will elevate them in a very subtle, but mouthwatering way.

This is one of the most purchased ingredients used in Japanese cooking! If you prepare a lot of Japanese dishes, this would be something that you would use often. It is usually purchased in small packets (about a tablespoon amount), as it is concentrated in flavor and a little goes a long way! But purchasing it in small amounts will greatly increase its price!! Use it as a stock basis for making all kinds of Japanese soups: miso, wakame, etc. You can also use a little to deepen the flavor of stir-frys and other oriental dishes. Useful hint: keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator to last longer.

I order for my Japanese stepmother, who lives in an area where it's almost impossible to get. She loves it, and i've used it myself in the past.

The product arrived in an air cell Amazon envelope and the product container was punctured, -one star for improper packaging, Good product lots of uses for stocks and noodles. Will be purchasing more of this fine product.

if you've never had these, these are Hon Dashi japanes fish stock powder.you've probally had some type of soup or broth in a japanese restaurant.they mostly use these hon dashi stock. some are cooked and some use these.I have had both cooked and powder stock.and I can't taste the difference.these go great with soba or vegebables when you do shabu shabu.great buy for the price.if you buy individual packs they are 30% higher cost.i use it ofter so i purchased this bigger size.i would recommend getting the smaller size and see how you like it first.

i'm sick and tired trying to find that one ingredient that the local stores don't have which is unfortunate and irritating when you are trying to nurse sick people back to health. without the hondashi the miso soup is not complete which yes everybody has their likes and dislikes when making this particular soup which is a matter of opinion but now that i got the one main ingredient which is always lacking in store i'm happy to say this will last me for a long while until i need more of it in the near by future. 10/10 i'd recommend this brand since its the only one that makes the soup taste traditional.
