The Handbook of Logistics and Distribution Management: Understanding the Supply Chain 5th Edition

This book has so many great and current fundamental concepts in supply chain. I plan on purchasing other books by these authors and publishing company.

Good book

The authors attempt a fairly broad coverage of the subject, thus introducing the many areas for thought. Two main areas need a lot of work to achieve their desired result. First, while they present many relevant topics, they often report on several topics with an incorrect depth of application. Example - in the presentation of the "Square Root Law" (which allows one to compare the costs of various numbers of distribution facilities), pp 197-98, the authors neglect the very caution of John Sussams, who authored the SRL back in 1986 in the "Journal of the Institute of Physical Distribution Management." Second, the book overlooks the basis upon which Supply Chain Management is built. There is no mention whatsoever of the free market or capitalism, and no cautions what ever for SCM becoming the new buzzword for centralized planning and the U.N.'s globalist agenda. Maybe a 6th edition will correct for the many errors and omissions of this 5th edition. I sent them an 11 page list of suggested improvements in August, 2016 but have never received anything back from them. We shall see.
