Magnificent
An early review of this by me wasn't posted and I'm surprised that no one else was moved to pay tribute to what should prove to be one of the finest jazz recordings of the year.Fans of Tomasz Stanko's most recent albums will have noticed that the master has found a youthful group of soul mates in Wasilewski, Misckiewicz and Kurkiewicz of the highest order. They are not overshadowed by their leader's presence and live are just as compelling as Stanko himself. Now with the matter of factly-titled "Trio" the young Polish, well, trio have shown themselves to be first rate composers and interpreters of their own accord. While the majority of the tracks are original compositions, the covers reveal a width of inspiration, from Polish composer Karol Symanowski's "Roxana's Song" to Wayne Shorter's "Plaza Real" to an actual Stanko composition. However, for me the standout track is the second song, Bjork's "Hyperballad". It is breathtakingly beautiful - the percussion incredibly atmospheric as the piano shifts in out of the the memorable melody. The clarity of the sound should astound were one not so used to ECM's incomparable production standards and the quality of the music should make the Trio as well-regarded and renowned as the Tord Gustavsen Trio or the Esbjorn Svensson Trio.

Simply Perfect
Out of all of the Three ECM recordings this trio have recorded, this one still stands out for me as the best. They have just recently released their third outing entitled "Faithful" which is superb & grows on me everytime i listen to it & before that "January", which again while being less immediate is still a great recording. But here in their debut for the ECM label the former Simple Acoustic trio of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz & Michal Miskiewicz create a soundscape so beautiful it hits the spot everytime. As soon as the opening notes of the first track open , you immediatly know it sounds right & your in for a treat. The first 6 tracks are phenomenal, & the last seven are as nearly as good."Hyperballad" has to be a highlight, simply a brilliant mood piece & gift of touch, not a glimmer of an unperfect note, just class all over. "Roxanna's song" & "KTC" are real winners featuring some terrific interaction between the players. But maybe my favourite track comes next in the form of a wayne shorter penned tune called "Plaza Real", just one of those tracks that hooks you the longer you play it, simply wonderful. & if that was'nt enough as soon as that track finishes, up comes "Shine" a truly superb uplifting & intricate number. I can't recommend this CD highly enough, if you like ECM recordings along with their trademark artwork , then you would'nt go far wrong in adding this "Trio" to your jazz CD collection.Perfect simply perfect.

Excellent album again...
...from Marcin Wasilewski. Can't get enough of their unique blend and gentle, suave sound. Some perhaps will consider it a bit sad, as I was told once, but it's a sweet, rather warm melancholy that embraces you and with a soothing touch makes you dream endlessly...

Hyperballads and Shorter, W.
Bjork's Hyperballad is to this trio as Silvio Rodriguez was to Bobo Stenson's - the gift of the jazz-ballad! Similar treatments, too - Nice! Shorter's Plaza Real is something else again. And Stanko's Green Sky ... I'm looking forward to my copy of 'Faithful' for more advancement in terms of composition, of Wasilewski [going by the valuable reviews], not so sure about the pivotal role of 'January' yet.
