Bad Girls - The Complete First Season [DVD]

I'm just going to echo the rest - this television show is far superior to anything the U.S. has ever put together. The writing is superb. The actors are so good that every character and story is riveting. I wish I could stumble upon more of these shows since so many American t.v. shows are the same formula - good looking cop or doctor in a relationship with good looking nurse or other cop. Most American shows seem to have the same predictable plots (except for the British steals like "Eleventh Hour", "Life on Mars" "The Office" etc.) I never know what is going to happen to a character in a BBC series because the writing seems to reign and they seem to allow for stories to unfold and keep the show running rather than the popularity of an actor/actress. My only wish is that some production company would duplicate these DVDs and other British t.v. and movies for American audiences. I'm tired of waiting for American formatted DVDs in order to see these superb shows. For those of you hooked on cop and doctor shows, try the British television version with such shows as "Blue Murder" and "MI5" and "Prime Suspect" and "Doc Martin". These are full of unique personalities, more great writing and strong female leads. And for those who haven't tried Aussie shows - take a look at "Rain Shadow" - a great new show about women vets in the middle of nowhere Australia.

This is the first of eight seasons of BAD GIRLS, and one of the best. I don't usually like or watch episodic dramas but this is so different from anything I've seen on U.S. television that I couldn't stop watching. The writing and acting are superb. It's great to see so many strong female characters, most likeable and one or two completely diabolical. The storylines are realistic yet compelling. The character development over the arc of the season was incredibly well done with some characters changing in surprising ways.Be warned, when I finished the first season I was so addicted to the show that I sent off to amazon.uk for a multi-region dvd player and seasons 2 through 8.My only complaint about this (the U.S.) box set is that it doesn't contain most of the extras that come on the UK version. I ultimately ended up giving this set to a friend and getting the UK box set of season one from amazon.uk. If you like outtakes, interviews with the cast, etc. I suggest getting a multi-region dvd player for under $100 and ordering season one from amazon.uk.

I bought this set for someone as a Christmas present last year (on the recommendation of a friend). When she opened the gift ... well, let's just say she was underwhelmed by the thought of a female prison drama. Despite that, we both started watching the DVDs on Christmas day. We finished series 1 just days later. It is so unbelievably good that it blew us both away. Luckily, series 2, which is not yet available in NTSC format as a dvd set, began to air on BBC America shortly after, so we were able to continue with the storyline.This show is really addictive. We've managed to pass on our addiction to others as well. The acting is superb, and the storytelling rarely falters. Many have mentioned the Helen/Nikki storyline in these reviews. That story is one of the standout plot points, but honestly the show remains good even after the Helen/Nikki story concludes at the end of series 3.My greatest hope is that many in the US will buy this set, so they will continue to release the other seasons in NTSC format. It is well and truly worth the modest investment.

I starting watching this BBC Series on L.O.G.O. but found the cable channel's commercial interruptions and senshorship annoying, so I decided to buy the DVD instead. I found myself hooked immediately at Season 1, Episode 1. I found Season 1 hard to stop watching and ended up watching the entire Season 1 in one weekend. The writing and acting are incredible, the love story simmers slowly and at times boils over. I found I needed to see more, more, more. Since only Season 1 is sold in the US (there were 8 seasons total broadcast in the UK), I ordered the next 2 Seasons from Amazon.com.UK and also ordered an International DVD player since my DVD player was strictly for Region 1 (US) DVDs. I quickly got my partner hooked and we are currently watching Season 3. I have loaned Season 1 to friends in the hopes of getting them hooked as well. I love this series. It is SOOOOO much better than the L Word. Watch it and you too will be bitten by the love bug! Warning, be prepared to break your rewind button!

I have to admit when I first caught a glimpse of this show on BBC America I thought... Women in prison? This is going to be bad. But I found quite the opposite. And while my favorite story line is the one between Nikki and Helen. Overall all the women and yes even Fenner, the down right evil male prison officer, keep you coming back and wanting more. Every storyline that takes place and there are quite a few, is interesting. My only disappointment with this DVD collection is that for some reason they didn't include the extras that are included in the Uncut UK version. I know the series is in its seventh season in the UK and maybe they thought some of the extras would not be revelant but I still think they should have at least included the outtakes. But if you can't have the UK version pick this one up, this series is so worth it. Trust me, you will be watching it over and over again.

After you get past the awful makeup and the really quite unbelievably benign environment of Larkhill Prison -- this should take you about 2 episodes -- you will be sucked into the story lines. Nikki and Helen's story is THE BEST lesbian love story ever on TV in any form, waaaayyy better than The L Word. Unfortunately, series 2 and 3, in which their story is brought to conclusion, are not available on DVD's that work in most U.S. players. However, Nikki and Helen's story has been uploaded to a certain popular video-sharing internet site, and not too hard to find. The rest of this series is also worth watching, i.e., Nikki and Helen are not the only good characters. And oh yes, there are some very hateable villains, which add to the fun. Totally worth the investment.

This is an outstanding series -- one of the best I've ever seen on tv. It's gritty, tragic, and sometimes funny. The characters are well-drawn and the acting is top-notch. This series makes obvious how palid most North American tv really is. I can hardly wait until they release the rest of the series in North America. Get this series...you won't be disappointed.

This is the best series I've ever watched. Characters are realistic, the acting is superb, and the storylines will blow your mind. After watching series one I was hooked on "Bad Girls" and bought an all region dvd player and every other box set of this show I could get my hands on. You'll laugh, you'll cry...and in the end, you'll know this is the best money you've ever spent.

I really enjoyed the first season of Bad Girls, I found it a very moving realistic drama and the actors were most convincing at times! Out of prison dramas like Oz I love this one the most!

This is one of the best t.v. series ever written. Viewers will buy every series once the Bad Girls bite !Fantastic entertainment which will stir all your emotions.
