Avantree Relay - Airplane Bluetooth Adapter for 2 AirPods or Headphones

I picked up the Avantree Relay mainly for use on flights, and it’s been very reliable so far. Setup is simple and quick, pairing easily with my Bluetooth headphones. Once connected, the audio has been stable with no noticeable dropouts or lag, even during long flights. Sound quality is very good for a Bluetooth adapter, and it works well for movies, TV shows, and general audio without sync issues. The adapter itself is compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry in hand luggage or a pocket. Battery life has been more than sufficient for long journeys, and I’ve been able to use it across multiple flights without needing to recharge in between. Build quality feels solid, and the physical controls are easy to use without needing to look at the device. It also works well beyond flights — I’ve used it with gym equipment and other non‑Bluetooth audio sources with consistent results. Overall, this is a well‑designed, dependable Bluetooth adapter that does exactly what it’s meant to do. A great option if you want wireless headphones to work properly with airplane entertainment systems or other wired audio sources.

I bought the Avantree Relay for a return flight with Virgin Atlantic and used it with my Sony WH CH520 wireless Bluetooth headphones. It worked brilliantly on both flights. On the outbound flight, the aircraft had Bluetooth connectivity, but it kept disconnecting, which became really frustrating. As soon as I plugged in the Avantree Relay, my headphones stayed connected for the entire 11 hour flight without a single issue. On the return flight, I was on an older aircraft that did not have Bluetooth at all, so the Relay was essential. The airline does provide wired headphones, but the sound quality is not great, and I much prefer using my own headphones as they block out more background noise and are far more comfortable. I only charged the Relay before each flight, and the battery easily lasted the entire journey with plenty of power to spare. It was simple to set up, reliable throughout both flights, and made a huge difference to my in flight entertainment. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to use their own wireless headphones when flying.

Fed up with using airline headphones which are poor quality and often broken, well this transmitter allows you to use up to two pairs of your own headphones same time. I fly a lot for work and these seem great. Only tried on laptop so far, but will work on any source with a 3.5mm earphone socket. Only gave 4* not 5 as the plug is straight, not 90 degrees, so in some airline seats could be an issue. Also comes with 2pin airline type adapter

This for me, i.e., has been an invaluable find! I bought a Bose system a good few years back, didn't do terribly much research at the time unfortunately! I mistakenly thought that the Bose system had a Bluetooth transmitter but was disappointed to find that this was not the case! It came with In-ear Earphones! So, had to sit literally on top of the system if I wanted to listen to it through these and wasn't prepared to do so! Anyway, a little Roberts radio packed up recently and I bought another cheapy on Amazon which is okay but initially bought this relay to listen to regular daily broadcasts on the new little radio using my Bluetooth earbuds! Suffice to say, I thought to give the relay a go on my Bose. Well, I am now able to listen to my Bose through my earbuds and this has transformed my Bose usage and listening greatly! I would say too, my house is older, has thicker walls and I find the range of this relay is probably as stipulated if not a little greater and sound quality is invariably good. Sound may phase in and out as I move from one room to another but, on the whole, I'm very pleased with it!

I recently went on a long-haul flight with the Avantree Relay, and I must say, it transformed my travel experience entirely. Upgrading my Bose QC20 wired earphones to a Bose Ultra Earbuds with this compact Bluetooth adapter proved to be a winner! This is a great travel companion, effortlessly connecting my favorite earbuds to the in-flight entertainment system. The audio quality was excellent, with virtually no delay thanks to Bluetooth 5.3 and Qualcomm aptX Low Latency technology. I didn't try it, but I appreciated the convenience of being able to connect two headphones simultaneously, perfect for sharing a movie with my travel companion. One of the standout features for me was the long-lasting battery life. Throughout my entire flight, the Avantree Relay kept me connected. The zippered case is a convenient bonus too! Overall, I couldn't be more satisfied with the Avantree Relay. It's a good-quality, affordable solution for wireless audio connectivity on planes. Highly recommended!

Not easy to pair in the first place, I still can only pair one set of headphones. I still can;'t connect my AirPods. But in use on a flight it worked very well. No loos of sound quality.

Finally got to try this out on four long flights to Auss and back. Paired effortlessly with mu Bose NC headphones with no percevable delay to the sound. Made long flights much more enjoyable (?) With clear sound without the wire getting in the way. I was also surprised at how long the battery listed- not on the full flight but quite a lot of the 23 hrs each way and didn't run out!! Definitely a great buy and is now permanently in my headphones case. Didn't try pairing a second device, will try this next time. Small case to put it in is good too.

Used on recent flights paired with new headphones. Worked exactly as it should. Very minimal delay, which I’d read in other reviews, but barely noticeable and didn’t detract from viewing/listening experience. A bit expensive for what it is but so much better than having wired airplane headphones.

Bought it for a recent long airplane ride from Dubai to Canada. Was Flying on ITA Airways. Didn't need to use because ITA allows direct bluetooth connection, but I tested it on my laptop and it worked as stated. Only problem is trying to remember the directions to connect/pair since I don't use it very often.

Always syncs up well and has a good battery! No complaints.
