Wrong battery installed
Wrong battery was installed (2032). Unit needs two 2016 batteries. Bought new batteries and changed them out unit works fine now.

Good but squishy button action.
I bought a couple of these to control lighting in a home theater. They work just fine but the feel of the buttons is a bit squishy and silent so one doesn't know if the command has "taken" by the feel of the button which is not a problem in my case as the lights are all in the same room as the remote and it's apparent that it has taken when the lights start to change. It would be preferable in some applications if the button would click mechanically or beep to assure the user that the command has been sent, e.g. if turning off an interior light not visible from a car as it is leaving the garage. Also, the dimming action works well but not very smoothly. Be aware that when setting the unit or item code on the top row of buttons that the next (middle) row is automatically set to the same house code as the top and the unit code is automatically set to the next number, e.g. if the top code is set to B5 the middle row will set to B6. Probably not a deal breaker for most applications as it is always possible to set the code on the receiving unit corresponding to the second row of buttons.

X10 flop
Could not get it to program. Had an older model and exchanged the case and the old one worked fine.

Does what's expected very well, could use more buttons.
If you're buying this to control lights and appliances remotely, you're on the right path.Don't forget, though, that you will also need a transceiver (a unit with an antenna that will pick up this remote's signal and feed it down the wires to the actual devices that you're looking to control), AND the control units for the devices (appliance modules, light modules, x-10 wall switches, etc).Say what you will about the x-10 technology, but nobody beats the value when it comes to x10. The range and reliability are VERY decent, and if you have any trouble, there is plenty of help out there. Now, about the remote: The signal is strong; Unlike the 4-unit "credit card" x10 controller, which is a joke, this one has a decent range. Be sure to install your transceivers as close to the area where you will be using the remote, and to extend the transceiver's antenna fully. As a side advice, if you have devices on two different phases, use *two* transceivers with the same code plugged intothose two different phases; That will eliminate the need for bridging the phases. When it comes to programming it, if you didn't get the manual with the device, Google it. Keep in mind, there are two slightly different sets of instructions; One for the models made prior to 2006, one for those made after.Try them both. Also keep in mind that this remote will accept a bigger, cheaper, and longer-lasting CR2032 battery. You may have to use a couple of dot-sized dabs of crazy glue to make the shell of the remote to stay together, but that seems to be the case regardless of whether you're using the larger battery or not.Lastly, this unit could do well with more buttons (it can turn of/on and dim only two different devices), but it is what it is -- I guess that's the tradeoff for ruggedness and reliability.

Works like a champ!
I bought this for my 14yo daughter. All of the home lights are X-10 and on a schedule. Now that she is "almost an adult", I changed the 11:00p "lights out" to 1:00a and she can now turn her own bedroom lights off earlier. She also uses it if she gets up at night to turn her bedroom light on and the downstairs light on as she's still afraid of the dark a bit. Works very well just remember that the buttons can only control two devices which are numbered sequentially and on the same house code. Eg: A1 and A2 or B5 and B6. We use house code C and the bedroom is 5 and the downstairs is 4, so the buttons are C4 and C5. Pretty easy to program, but make sure the instructions match the device or you may get frustrated. There was a programming guide update. Read the other reviews for more tips. One last thing, you need to have a wireless RF receiver to use this keychain transmitter. I already had this, but make sure to buy one to go with this remote if you don't already have one. ;)

It’s a great convenience. Secure.
IT works very well. I use the same house code at both my home and cottage. I can flip on exterior lights as I arrive at night along with an interior light at either location. It transmits very well thru multiple walls and to a reasonable distance. The batteries have lasted for years.X10 has a security advantage over Wi-Fi as it cannot be hacked. It’s also just easier to flip devices on and off with a button than multiple time consuming swipes on a smart phone. Guests can More easily use x10 as well.

Works perfect!
It works as described. It would be a five rating but it’s a little cheap feeling but it does the job.

On or Off
This keychain remote was bought to turn off our hot water heater when not in use. It is a companion to the wireless transceiver X10 TM751. They really work well with each other. This is our second remote. Our last one lasted over 10 years. We just wore it out.
