John Bauer Tarot Deck

Love It...however...
I love this deck as I adore the work of John Bauer, however....In my opinion, the guidebook for this deck is seriously lacking. The card meanings are very short (like 1 line) and are atypical for tarot. The problem, for me, is that the meanings provide no insight as to why the images were chosen. I think a more thorough and insightful guidebook would really do this deck justice as the images are so impactful.

Pictures don't match card meanings
I flipped through and noticed the pictures were very off from anything that made sense, even as an intuitive reader, so I spent a LOT of time trying to make it work, seeing if I could rearrange them to fit card meanings better. A few were perfect, but only a few. I came to some arrangement that was okay-ish, but the images were still very blurry (and some downright hideous trolls) and would've needed so much work customizing and trimming off the old titles. Not worth it for okay-ish art. The backs were GORGEOUS, and some of the match ups were very insightful, but ultimately I had to return these. Not worth hoarding just for the sake of having if I don't love them or won't read from them. Be conscious of what you let into your space ♡

Enchanting
A beautiful world is captured in this artwork. Midsummer Night Dream meets a less haunting Pan's Labyrinth. A temporary portal.

JOHN BAUER TAROT IS MAGIC!
when i pre-ordered this deck my bf was all whatever but as soon as he went thru them he immediately fell in love & now wants his own deck. while i had a fairy tale book with bauer's art as a kid my bf did not yet he said the images took him back to his childhood fairy tales & nursery rhymes & they do! this is such a magical deck that makes you feel the images & will be a great deck to read intuitively with. some people are leaving negative comments about the card stock & while it is on the thin side they seem very sturdy & well made. if you feel attracted to the images please be assured the deck will hold up, unless you are abusive to cards in which case maybe plastic cards would be better for you.

Be flexible
When I first received this deck, I was thrown off by how the images just didn't match up to what I worked have expected for the card meanings. Gorgeous deck, but I couldn't deal with seeing, for example, two people fleeing on horseback on the Four of Wands, or the Star and Moon cards looking nearly identical. So I trimmed the borders off and treat it as an oracle deck. Resolved the card meaning issues AND interestingly, the card stock quality issue. Taking about an inch of length away actually suits the thinner cardstock. All in all, I'm happy with my new deck.

Just get a Bauer art book; don't waste your money
The very first thing I noticed was how terribly thin and poor quality the card stock is. It's not the typical nice quality I've always had from a standard Lo Scarabeo deck. I hope this won't be a trend for them because I will stop purchasing their decks if it is. Very disappointing. The fact is that this is a deck made up of art that was not designed to be tarot illustrations. That's what I was expecting. However, the illustrations often seem arbitrarily assigned to cards that don't match a traditional meaning even remotely. Very often the meanings in the little white book have little or no relationship to traditional meanings or even the illustrations, and the new meanings are vague and of little use. That's fine but I may as well have bought an art book. That way the illustrations would have been larger and the product would have been of higher quality. I don't want to learn an entirely new Tarot system for this deck. The little white book has very poor grammar. I know it's one of Lo Scarabeo's simple booklets but why not get a writer who can write properly and an editor who can really edit, if you're producing a professional product? The cards are a nice size and shuffle well. The art is gorgeous and the backs are lovely, so there are some positive aspects, which led me to give it two rather than one star.

Too beautiful for words.
Bought this for my wife and was blown away by how beautiful they are. Now I need a deck for myself.

Beautiful cards
The art on these is spectacular. The little white book is okay. It mostly describes what is depicted on the cards with a little bit of interpretation. John Bauer illustrated a lot of Swedish Fairy Tales so if you want to understand the imagery in more depth pick up "Great Swedish Fairy Tales" which combines his art with the stories he originally illustrated them for. Not every image in the deck is in the book, but it's a good place to start if you want to dig a little deeper and get other dimensions of insight.

Maravilloso y mágico
Es mágico, sutil y duro a la vez. Es de esos mazos de cartas que te dan abrigo y aliento cuando los lees pero que al mismo tiempo te hacen reflexionar. Queda un buen sabor de boca!

Absolutely magickal deck!!
I wasn't sure at first when I looked through the deck, Princes and Princesses and giants and trolls but on using the cards and becoming familiar with their meanings the deck is an absolute delight to use and read from. My newest favourite! Love it!
