Earth 2 6: Collision

Basically a World's End Tie-In
DC seems to have done some strange ordering of publication. Earth 2: World’s End was a series published weekly starting in December 2014 and ending June 2015. The first 11 issues were compiled quickly into a TPB published in May 2014. The issues here in volume 6 were published between December 2014 and May 2015 and involve the same storyline. In other words to read the story chronologically you would need to pull out Earth 2: Earth’s End and jump back and forth between this book and that one. For instance, the origin of Darkseid’s Four Furies is in this volume but they attack Earth in World’s End. World’s End volume 2 is scheduled to be released next week. This volume also precedes Convergence which was published in October.Volume 6 supports World’s End, a series which I feel has only been decent thus far. The problems with World’s End is probably to a degree due to the incredible volume of writers and artists necessary to bring it out on a weekly basis. It is the culmination of the war with Darkseid and Apokolips, a storyline which has literally been running since 2012. To me this feels like just a tie in to World’s End. Like tie in’s there isn’t really a continuing narrative just small stories intended to fill in gaps in World’s End.There is some interesting stuff in this volume. I enjoyed the background story of the Four Furies including a cool negotiation between Steppenwolf and Mongul over ownership of one of the Furies. Then we get some really boring stuff like the formation of the Earth Avatars. There is a very cool moment where a being from Apokolips gains control of the Helmet of Nabu but then it is almost immediately undone ruining some tremendous possibilities. In the grand scheme of DCU continuity this book could be skipped and you won’t miss much. I look forward to this endless war with Apokolips being over so Earth 2 can get on to something new.

Frustrating Read
I have loved this series, but this book is a mess. It starts off with new characters suddenly in the mix, introductions to new characters that go nowhere, constant story jumps. A frustrating read at best. Finally saw a reviewer that said you need to buy World's End and switch back and forth between the two in order to read it chronologically. It should not have been released this way or it should have come with directions.

Earth 2 is nearly at its end, and this ...
Earth 2 is nearly at its end, and this volume will make you realize how much potential this version of all of these characters had before it was ruined with Society.

Confusing order but good
It's not a direct continuation on vol. 5, and you need Earth 2: Planetfall to go with last 4-5 issues of graphic novel. Probably why there's no paperback of vol. 6 yet.

Could have been great
At the start Earth 2 looked like it was going to be something new and fresh from the convoluted mess that preceding it with the multiverse. DC looked like it had really planned it out well, but after volume 4 there seemed to be an effort to push along the narrative rather than fleshing out the characters further. There seemed to be no gap to let the characters breathe, no stand alone flash, hawk girl, GL, Mr Terrific, Terry Sloan or the queen of Atlantis stories - if we were lucky we got a brief origin story. In it's rush to get Convergence (don't even get me started on that pile of cr@p) in place, DC sacrificed what could have been a fresh take on Earth 2 that could have run for years. Don't get me wrong DC did some amazing stuff (New 52 Azzarello Wonder Woman, Aquaman reboot, Snyders Batman - for the most part, Justice League, Batgirl and this) but they do seem to be suffering from event overload. New 52 was a great idea badly managed with editors scared to see it through, Multiversity is a great case in point: You have Grant Morrison tying up a bunch of one shots with an okay narrative, but the world building was fantastic. Suddenly DC had all of these great universes it could use for stories, and in a blink of an eye it wipes them all out.
