Q: Is there a box for it ?

Yes, there's a very sturdy box for the engine. The engine is fabulous. I bought it as a gift for my husband and he was thrilled!

Q: Does this come completely assembled, or as a build it kit?

The D430 is not a kit, it´s assembled, only a few parts like the safety valve and the manometer must be screwed into the right places at the boiler.

Q: Does it have a steam whistle?

Indeed it does have a whistle. It also has a valve with a round plastic knob to empty the boiler when finished playing with it Not may Wilesco Models have this feature, I like to leave a bit of steam pressure in the boiler to shoot the water out into a safe container, Use caution if you do this. Here is another tip: Steam for the simulated chimney smoke collects inside of the boiler housing and there is no drain to get it out. I use a modified Monoject syringe with a piece of aquarium air hose pushed onto the syringe tip to suck out the condensed water after everything cools down, Simply lift off the chimney to access the hole to do this. I was surprised how much water collects there. I only use distilled water in my Steam engines. I took off the drive chain and I only run my D430 in a stationary position with the wheel blocks to prevent movement. Thank you for your question. I have four Wilesco Steam engines and the D430 is my favorite,
