I have been a doll-maker and collector for almost 50 years .. and "purely primitive DOLLS" by Barb Moore is absolutely the best-written, most informative of any instructions I have ever come across. Easy to read, easy to understand, easy to follow! Barb Moore has shared a wealth of doll-making talent with us. Her book overflows with inspiration and photos, ideas, tips, instruction. It is much like having her right there with you every step of the way on your 'doll-making journey'. She has touched on every aspect of doll-making .. designing, fabric, cutting and sewing, unique ways of aging your doll to look as if it is a hundred years old or more. Great advice on stuffing dolls, creating adorable faces, dressing them, hair techniques and even making primitive-looking accessories to give each doll a special character .. to 'bring them to life'. Each of Barb Moore's dolls have a character of their own .. all will make you smile and just want to hug them!I HIGHLY recommend that if you are a dollmaker, new or old, or just have one 'dancing in your heart' and you wish to make a PURELY PRIMITIVE DOLL .. you definitely want to own this incredibly wonderful book!REVIEW BY:FRANNIE STEVENS-MESHORER

I bought the Kindle version of this book and wasn't able to put it down until I read the whole thing. Lots of photos and easy instructions. I've since been tea-dying some old fabrics, and pulling out my painting cloths to start working on some dolls for the holidays. With these easy to follow instructions I should have no problem in making a few dolls - even though it will be my first my first time at making any kind of doll. I highly recommend.

I've searched many books on how to make extreme primitive dolls and found this wonderful book. It's easy to comprehend, easy to follow, and the photography is amazing! Very inspirational and helpful! I love Barb's dolls.The best I have seen. It's my new go-to book for making extreme primitive dolls. I consult it again and again. Hoping she will write a follow-up book on tips and ways to avoid or fix problematic areas. LOVE it!

The is a fun book. Lots of instruction and inspiration for those inclined to the extreme prim dolls. Not sure I will be "that extreme" but still lots of tips and how-to's from the author which is appreciated. Some artists don't want to give away all their secrets....not so here. A useful book and reference for ones personal library.

I really enjoyed this book, even though it is geared toward people with no sewing or dollmaking experience. As an experienced dollmaker, I was interested in the specific techniques in making primitive dolls, and I was not disappointed. The author gave lots of information and examples, and explained all the techniques thoroughly.

Honestly.... The only book on creating your own primitive dolls you will ever need.

This is a great book for anyone who loves prims, whether you are an experienced doll maker or complete novice. Barb Moore has a wonderful talent for creating this style of doll. The book contains no patterns, but she shares all her methods and ideas to inspire you to make your own characters. I have found her ideas very useful, particularly for faces. At the back of the book there is a gallery of dolls she has made, they will really make you smile!
