All About Saul Leiter

The low rating reflects ONLY the physical book and not the wonderful photos of Saul Leiter.The format of the book is bad.Main problem: It is not easy to wide open duch a small book. This wouldn't be a problem if they hadn't made the most iconic photos cover 2 pages, left and right. Pretty annoying to miss all the photos i wanted to enjoy.Book size: Rather small for photosPrint quality: The images seem to lack contrast. I do not have another Saul Leiter book to compare but I guess they could have done a better job with it the printing.Lovely photos. I hope you can find them in another publication.

I confess I am a fan. I have a few books of Saul Leiter's work and here vary from his black and white to colour and street work to nudes. He has a good eye and took these images for his own pleasure. No Facebook, no instagram just prints from the local chemist he kept and never exhibited in his life time.Know for his work on fashion, mainly in Harper's Bazaar, this is a million miles away from that work. Yes some of the images are hard to identify, out of focus but most are colourful with clever composition,. This is a long way away from most street photographers now a days let along in the 1950s to 1960s.Regrettably his work is only really be recognised now after his death and the Film Carol used images styled on Saul Leiter to give it colour and atmosphere.

I adore Saul Leiter's photography, and I loved the fact that this book included some of his own laconic words along with the images. Such a great idea. I saw a wonderful exhibition of his work in London at The Photographers' Gallery, where they did the same thing.

Plenty of the great and interesting images made by Leiter, badly let down by poor reproduction and production. Should have been hardback, larger format with with beautiful paper and reproduction. No idea what Thames and Hudson were doing, lost the plot I would say. Other books are much better on this fine photographer. Th only good point is a low price.

Terrible reproductions of work from a wonderful photographer. Appalling quality paper and treatment. See the book "Early Colour" instead for a proper reproduction signed off by the artist.

I love Saul Leiter but all his books are mostly out of print and unobtainable in price. As soon as I saw this book I had to get it. It's a lovely paperback with some of Saul's great photography. Highly recommend

Fabulous selection of images, well printed, but small for its thickness and half the pictures printed right into the gutter making it difficult to see them properly. Good book but slightly missed opportunity.

I think Amazon can do better packaging - not only in a cardboard envelope. I got mine with a ripped back cover.The book is average. Nothing special.
