It protected the compressor but, come spring, it was next to impossible to take off since it only had a tie-string on either side to keep it down. With all of the snow/ice/wind, the knot would either come loose or be much tighter. This cover has simple side release buckles on both sides with long straps that fit perfectly around the compressor (make sure to measure your compressor before hand to get a good fit). It was much easier to remove when we finally needed it in early summer this year. The openings for the compressor hoses work perfectly and the flap around the fan can be held up with another strap and buckle, which is perfect since the compressor for the units in our bedrooms are dual purpose (heating and cooling). The material is nice and thick so it has held up nicely to everything the past winter has thrown at it.
