TOCA Race Driver 3 (PS2)

Awful Handling Mars Potential
I played and really enjoyed Toca's ps1 games and really got into the race driver games for PS2 however I have really struggled with this release and its all down to the handling. The cars brake systems are too slow and cumbersome and do not match the AI cars and so when you get passed the opening few races by more luck than judgement (eg bashing into cars to get round corners) you'll be faced with more time spinning off by other cars hitting you than anything else. Its a shame as the graphics are fine, there's plenty of modes and racing types to choose from and some of them actually suit the style of handling like the rally events - however its overall a step back from Toca Race Driver 2 for me as I enjoyed that game ten times more than this one which is now in its final stages proving to be a real chore to finish.

Best ps2 racing game think knocks heads with a few others its packed with agility and tons of races not going best graphics ever mean like modern games like grid gt so on but it is for the console specially how much is actually to do on the disc

Loads of different racing, but not all of it is that good...
If variety is your thing and you like a bit of racing too, TOCA 3 is the game for you. You can race vehicles on road, off road, over road, under road and of all different shapes and sizes. But it's a double-edged sword. On the one hand, the variety is great as you get to try your hand at lots of different styles of racing, but on the other it is a weakness as some of them are rubbish and you feel as though you are being forced to play through it in order to make progress. The difficulty level of the different racing types also varies wildly. Often a good qualifying time will get you at the front of the grid, and as long as you start well you can stay well out in front. It is no great challenge.Other races are much more difficult and the slightest error will cost you places that you cannot possibly get back. It's very frustrating as the difficulty lurches about between the classes rather than scale up as you work though the game.On offer is the World Tour, which offers loads of different racing types in mini championships, and Pro Career mode, which gives the chance to race through a full season of just one type. Progress can be saved within these, but be careful, you can only save a World Tour championship or a Pro Career season at one time - if you switch mid-season from Pro Career to World Tour you lose the save! This is not explained in the manual or in the game and leads to early frustration.Graphically, TOCA 3 is OK. It moves at a fair pace and does the job without being particularly spectacular. The sound is fine, it makes engine noises and the tyres screech when they should. There you go.Multiplayer is well put together and as long as you can put yourself against players of a similar skill level, it's good fun.So lots of variety but all of it is OK without being great. There are no British or World Touring Cars, which were the strengths of the earlier games in this series. Codemasters have clearly decided more is more, but I would rather have less but be given proper championships and more detailed racing. Just because there are such things as monster truck racing and classic rallying, it does not mean they will necessarily be that much fun to play. The racing and handling in TOCA 3 is generally good, there is some great action to enjoy and the multiplayer works well. Buy this game if you like lots and lots and lots (and lots) of variety, but don't expect all of it to be particularly well done.

Wow. Its immersive and hard. Its an an old school game, there are no easy ways to win - you have to train to drive. Each win gives you a sense of achievement which you want to share. Then you turn round to find out there is nobody there, Its 2am, the summer has gone, and your working in 4 hours time!

Great game
Indycar is my favourite discipline of racing but there are many others to suit your fancy, although not all of them are licensed.
