I had the same issue! No worries have someone pull the bottom one and you pull the top..you can gently squeeze inwards to loosen it up :)

Q: Is the black a matte or shiny/laquer black?

I don’t know, I ordered the clear color, but they might be same finish as all the acrylic products, exactly same

Q: Do these come in counter height?

these chairs are bar height not counter height. I relied on this review specifically to order and now I have to return it because it is too high for my island.
