Watercolor School: A Practical Guide to Painting With Watercolor

This book is just what I was looking for as a brand new watercolor artist. Good, clear explanations of EVERYTHING. So often, with art books, I find authors to be either condescending or full of themselves. This author is neither. She gives you good information without overwhelming you with things you don't really need to know as a beginner. She introduces materials and techniques as you proceed through the book. I highly recommend this book for any new watercolor painter.

This is very much a beginner's book but it is a great beginner's book. Covers all kinds of techniques and concepts in a clear and concise manner. I first read it from cover to cover, and now use it as a reference from time to time. A great first book on watercolor.

You are taken through all the basics (how to do a wash, how to maintain soft vs hard edges) in detail via examples where you can see the paintings evolve.In many cases you see two different artists' versions of how to attack a painting. This, for me, we extremely valuable!I haven't gotten to the project exercises yet, but I will. My sense is that if you complete the exercises you will emerge will an excellent foundation in watercolor.

The book explains basic water color techniques in a straight forward and easily understood manner. This is better than many workshops which have you do a painting without actually providing instruction regarding the "how to do it" information.

I needed a beginner book and it was to complex for me. For you it might be just what you need.

Nice approach to the subject with plenty of illustrations. A good intro to the subject.

This is a book for anyone interested in learning how to paint with watercolours. It covers in detail the methods and ways of painting that anyone just learning about this medium would want. It has beautiful step-by-step instructional pictures as well. I had initially purchased this item for a friend but cancelled the order as soon as I'd found out that she already had gone out to buy it a few hours after I'd bought it. This company is really fast with it's processing and had already shipped it out. I decided to keep the book for myself as it is such a good book!

I recommend that you buy this book as soon as you see it, because it doesn't appear for sale very often, yet it is one of the most highly recommended handbooks for beginners in the watercolor medium. I bought two copies on amazon - one from the USA and another copy from Germany. A very worthwhile and well established teaching book.
