Could have been better
The DVD Chiefs movie itself is great and I was really looking forward to seeing it again as I really enjoyed it the first time I saw it on TV and was not disappointed on that score. Really gripping drama and did not want to turn it off once it started. However, while I received the DVD very promptly, the quality and sound is not great. I know that the series was aired on TV a long time ago but I have received DVDs of much older movies and they were of much better quality. Really good drama series but disappointing reception. Sorry.

chiefs
Chiefs (AU) Excellent. I first saw this many years ago. Is very clever the way the storyline works its way around the different Police Chiefs who are present amongst a serial killer of young boys and how they each so nearly come close to catching him, but then through course of events he manages to keep getting away with it and this goes on for 40 years with a total of 42 and 1 very bad Police Chief who abuses his authority. There is also the KKK thrown in and it gives an overall insight to a particular time in the early century in deep South America. Is interesting and gripping at times.

A great mini series
Perhaps you need to have lived the 80's to understand the slower pace that dramas of that era have. But the pace of the story is important to show the development of a small town in troubled times that has a far greater story waiting to be revealed.Great cast, with cameo's from actors that you now recognise as household names.I only saw this mini-series once before when it was aired in Ireland in the 80's. Always remebered it and was delighted to add to my DVD collection.

Excellent Viewing
Set in during the depression and beyond, this film covers the lives of several successive Police Chiefs in the small town of Delano where white supremacy ruled initially and where the culmination of the story sees the first coloured police chief. The story also features the disappearance of several young men whom, it is eventually discovered have been murdered by a local inhabitant.

Hail to the Chiefs!
As is often the case when you get older, people get real nostalgic about the things they did, listened to and watched growing up. And whats better to take you back to being a kid then tv-shows and movies? Chiefs was one of those tv-series I remembered watching with my parents when I was younger, and so for several years I tried finding out what the name was of this series. Once I found out it was called Chiefs and starred an excellent cast, among them movielegend Charlton Heston, I desperatly started looking for a DVD edition, and was excited to see that Amazon UK actually had this in store. After watching it I can honestly say that it truly is as good as I remembered it. Chiefs is a story about this small southern town, where a series of murders have been puzzeling three generations of police chiefs for a period of 40 years. The series takes you back to 1924 when the murders started, and when the first "chief" was appointed by local politician Hugh Holmes, played by Charlton Heston. Over the next several years we see two more police chiefs hold office, one of which is played by Brad Davis, better known for his role in Midnight Express, and the final chief, an african american officer (Billy Dee Williams), who ends up solving the murders and bringing this serial killer to justice. If there's one thing I like about this edition, I would have to say it's the fact that it makes it possible for me to relive the excitement I experienced when I first saw this series on tv back in the eighties. Hollywood DVD however has not put a lot of effort into this DVD, to make this a good release. The quality of the picture for starters is nothing to brag about. It is very dark and seems to have been copied from a rather bad source. The audio could've been much better also. As far as special features go, don't even bother. Besides playing the movie and jumping to a scene, there's nothing more being offered here then a very bad release. This series initially lasted 6 hours, and it looks like this is the cut version, which sometimes shows up on tv. Sadly enough this only lasts 206 minutes, and skims away most of the middle story featuring the late great Brad Davis. If you, just like me, really desperatly want to see this series again, and can't wait for a proper version to be released, I would recommend buying this DVD. If not, spend your money more wisely, and just wait for a more deserving edition of what's still considered to be a great series.

Disappointed.
Disappointed. Not as good as I remember it. However, that's down to me rather than the product! My expectations were too high, or my my entertainment standards have increased since I first saw it.
