Good maps for route plannng
I'm old fashioned enough to still prefer a map for touring; the GPS is fine for getting to a specific place but useless for diversions and route planning. The Michelin maps are at a good scale for touring a region and are optimised for road travel with little extraneous (and confusing) detail found on other maps. I also find them easier to handle than an atlas, which always seems to have your road spanning multiple pages. The Michelin map takes up less room, too. Wouldn't be without it.

Love Michelin maps
I'm a biker and like to avoid motorways, toll roads and some major roads. Even though I have a satnav I use Michellin maps to plan a route because Michelin maps show the scenic routes. This map served me well for a bike trip round the Peak District and beyond.
