Nean Bicycle Frame Ring Lock, Chain Lock Include Insert Chain and Mounting Kit, Black, 5.5 x 900 mm

I wanted a AXA Defender but couldn't justify the cost and the extra outlay for the (in my view essential) connecting chain/ cable given the age and low value of the bike. This Nean includes a good strong chain with the lock, which in turn is sturdy and has a nice positive locking bolt action and spring release. As with the Axas, the key is retained when unlocked so to save keeping it loose in a pocket or bag and potentially misplacing it, I clip it to my other keys using a mini carabiner hook which allows me to release it quickly on return. Being a big German-made town bike, my Kalkhoff had the mounting holes already in the down tubes but it also came with plenty of mounting hardware which should make it possible to mount it on most traditional hard tailed bikes. I don't know if it's as secure as an Axa under attack, and honestly I hope that it's enough of a deterrent that it won't be tested.

Brilliant theft deterrent at this price. Fitted to the pre-fab mount holes on my daughter's dutch bike. The top of the lock only just fitted under the frame (hence 4 stars) and I had to remove the fender to make it fit. Unfortunately the lock then covers the central mount hole for the fender so I have had to resort to a cable tie to secure it. The lick itself is okay quality but the chain is great. Probably not going to stop a determined theif but a convenient front and rear wheel lock that will stop casual theft.

The good thing is it does do what it says on the tin, i.e. it's a frame lock ring. and the chain is good - neither too big and heavy nor to small it can be cut too easily. It's not chunky D-lock secure, but it's secure enough and is less cumbersome.The less good things are the fitting clips are cheap metal that scratches the fame and don't fit that well. And then you can't take the key out when the thing's open which, practically speaking isn't a huge problem, but it's not great either.Update: It's a few months on, and I'm now in love with this lock. It's so easy to use and chunky enough to discourage anyone (unless yours is a really expensive bike in which case you'll need something more serious). Upgrading the review to five stars. The key not coming out is actually good - it means I never have to try to find it! And the dodgy fitting clips haven't budged a millimeter, so they're probably better than they seemed at first.Update 2: It's nearly a year on and I'm still in love with this lock, but... the fittings have budged and needed re-adjusting and will likely need to be done every 6 months or so, lest the lock slips down and rubs against the wheel. They really do need to improve those. I'm leaving the rating at 5 stars as it is a brilliant lock and so easy to use and quite secure, but it's borderline - any more issues and I'll downgrade it again.

I had to drill a coupler of holes in my frame and install some rivet nuts to secure this to the frame of my bike. Having done so, I think those is a really good lock.When unlocked, one key is captive inside the mechanism. It is not possible to activate the lock without rotating the key, so there is no way the lock will activate while you are riding the bike.The chain is good for some extra security.The only thing this doesn't provide is a lock for the front wheel. Since I have a cheap bike, I bought just a cable for that, and the ends of the cable can go through the chain.There is always a chance that it will be stolen, but anyone who has seen the lock picking lawyer on YouTube will understand that. This is for short stops of up to a day, I would say.Really pleased with the convenience of it. I would say it does a great job!

This is a fantastic value lock and chain.It's definitely worth reviewing the sizes before buying.I bought one and fitted it to my bike without any issue it's so good I decided to buy another one for the wife's bike.I spent 1hr today trying all ways to get it to fit but it wouldn't, the surface in the frame isn't there, this is not a fault of the lock but more me not measuring before purchasing.If you're sure this fits then for the value it's amazing, would definitely recommend this lock and chain.

This is a great frame lock for the price,I was amazed by the quality v price. Have now ordered another for my husband’s bike. Great for a cafe stop lock, the chain is very useful too.

Had the required threaded bushes on my ebike frame so took the plunge. Excellent value and decent quality. The captive key is actually very useful and makes locking the bike near effortless. I use the chain when I feel the need for more security.Recommended.

Cut through with a set of bolt cutters and now my bike is gone. Invest in a proper horseshoe lock.
