Tomb Raider: Legend
This was the first Tomb Raider game I had ever played and instantly became my favourite. Everything about it is brilliant, the story, the weapons, the gameplay, everything.Weapons: I think my favourite weapon has to be Excalibur, one swing of it and enemies are dead, which can save a lot of time and effort. Brilliant weapon. The default dual pistols are great when you have all the upgrades for it, it has unlimited ammo as well, which is nice. The shotgun and the assault rifle are always good weapons as well.Locations: The locations are very good, the scenery is great in places like Ghana. Even though the game is called Tomb Raider, you are not always in the tombs, levels like Japan and Kazakhstan take place away from the tombs. The Japan level takes place across rooftops and inside buildings and The Kazakhstan level is investigating a old military base. The rest of the levels involve Lara exploring the ruins of at least 1 tomb.Equipment: Lara has many gadgets to help her on her quest. There is a magnetic grapple, which can be used to move certain objects, swing across gaps or manipulate scenery. There are binoculars, which can be very useful for observing Lara's surroundings, the binoculars also have a R.A.D. mode which will help when you encounter a puzzle. You can zoom in and out which can also help with puzzles but can also help when trying to find exits. Lara's PLS (Personal Light Source) comes in handy when entering very dark areas but can only be used for a short time before it deactivates to recharge itself. For the flashback in level 2 (Peru) Lara has an unlimited supply of flares instead of the PLS which, when thrown, illuminate the area they land in and are twice as bright as the PLS but only 2 can be active at any one time. There are lots of things to do once you have completed the main game, like replaying levels to collect all rewards if you have missed some out, replaying levels on time trial to unlock certain things, exploring Croft Manor and getting all the rewards, getting a certain percentage of rewards on each level to unlock different outfits that can be used on any level (except the swimsuits, which can only be used in Croft Manor).Tomb Raider: Legend has seemingly endless replayability, once you start playing it you won't be able to stop playing it till you have unlocked everything there is to unlock. If you get stuck trying to unlock everything there is, I would suggest Tomb Raider Legend: The Complete Official Guide it will come in handy if you can't find that last reward or want to know how to get all the Croft Manor rewards.5 stars for an amazing game

Am i missing something here....?
Bought this game after years of hearing people say how great Tomb Raider is and i feel like i must be missing something. The game seems pretty poor and dull to me and after a few days of playing it i began to wonder what my motivation was to get through one batch of secret passages to be confronted with another. Controls are certainly dodgey too.

Great, but far too short
When this was game was released, I held back from buying it. After the disappointment of 'Angel of darkness', I really wasn't expecting too much. The last game was okay, but had none of the atmosphere of the original (TR 1&2) games. The control system was none too great either. However, the urge to buy it finally overcame me, and after getting it at a bargain price, I unwrapped it and eagerly placed in in the PS2.I really wish I'd bought it on its release. It's great. The controls take a while to get used to, but once you get to grips with them are very, very good. The levels are large, and give a flavour of the original games' splendour, without the use of the cubes and blocks that made up those enviroments. The tomb/temple levels are as ever, far more fun than the city/military base levels, though that's more a personal thing than a criticism- I like the feeling of exploration a whole lot more when I'm avoiding spike traps and leaping over fire pits. For me, running around in buildings is a whole lot less fun...The set pieces are fantastic, though the need to press buttons at the right time in a seemingly ordinary cut scene can catch you out if your attention isn't 100% (it did me, anyway...).However, as so many people have said: The game is far too short. FAR too short. I completed the main story of the game in two days- a lost weekend if you will, and I'm no gameplaying genius. Of course, the fact that I spent two days doing little except play the game (stopping only for two trips to the pub on Saturday and Sunday evening)speaks volumes for its playability. Twice as many levels would have been nice. Once completed, the ability to revisit the levels in any order and collect the rewards you missed the first time adds some longevity, as does the time trial mode.Hopefully, in the next TR game, the developers will listen to players comments and this will be addressed. In the meantime, if the game stays in the hands of the current deloping team, I think it's in safe hands. This is the best release since about the third installment in my opinion, and has gone back towards its roots.Overall, a five star game that lost a star for being far too short.

i bought this game but it was scratched, so ...
i bought this game but it was scratched, so asked for a replacement, i got an email back immediately appologizing and saying they will send out another copy immediately. a few days later i recieved a new copy which was pristine with no scratches so eagerly popped it into my ps2 and grabbed a controller. oddly rather that load the tomb raider title screen it just had a black screen with the words "congratulations" i clicked on the word and a short clip played of a close-up of somebody repeatedly spitting onto a picture of my face they had somehow aquired - this went on for 214 seconds (for some reason) and needless to say i was not amused. 2/10
