Flowerpaedia: 1000 flowers and their meanings

What I was looking for but maybe not suited for everyone
This book is exactly what I needed. So far it's been very helpful. The front of the book, section 1, has a very short describing idea with the according flower (ex. Forbearance> Tamarind) AND THEN in the back, section 2, it lists each flower that is in the book individually and expands on the meaning that was listed in section 1 (ex. Tamarind> faithfulness, durability, forbearance). I do admit that it was, at first, daunting to navigate. But after I sat down and really looked at what was in the book, I found it very easy too find what I was looking for. I do want to state that THERE ARE NO IMAGES, and I am personally very okay with that. Even without images the book gives very good information and honestly I feel as though its better without the images. Because, without images I don't form immediate opinions on how the flower looks rather than its meaning. Instead, I have to look at its meaning and decide if it fits the mood I'm going for, and then look up an image of the flower. Overall I was very happy with this book. The font is pretty and in this adorable green color, and aesthetically its a very beautiful book. For those more looking for pretty flower illustrations I suggest getting The Complete Language of Flowers, By S. Theresa Dietz. The illustrations in this book are beautiful and it gives a bit more information on the background of each flower. I have both of these books and I like to cross reference them. Also check out Etsy for antique botany books if you're purely here for the illustrations. They have some cool stuff too.

Valuable information
Let me be clear. This is a reference book. The first part alphabetically lists the property (example Release Negativity”) and then shows what flowers/plants have that ability. The next section has the flowers/plants alphabetically (example “Wormwood”) and lists the main/common properties of that plant. Following that there is an index of the plants and which pages in the “properties” section that they are referenced. This is relevant because there are some aspects the plant has which may not be listed for the plant. There is a section of regional plants and one that describes different cultural symbolism (the meaning behind the number of roses in a bouquet).I have many many books about the magical meaning of plants which I reference when I make incense, but none have been as thorough and easy to use as this.I’m so glad I took a chance (after reading a review here) and purchased this book!

Very Informative
I like it so much I will have to buy it instead of just borrowing from KU. It is organized very well and is easy to look up what you want to know.Thank you this was just what I was looking for.

Have been looking for a book like this for so long...
Simple and easy to read. It's basically a dictionary about flowers, tells you about their different meanings without including any other unnecessary information. The first half tells you which flowers you may use depending on the message you want to convey ( for example: Admiration>> Lavender, Heather, Scabiosa, Purple Orchid). The second half of the book uses the flowers name and then tells you its different meanings (Carnation, Red>> love, compassion, romance, be mine, abundance, progression, life-force, yes).If you simply want to know the meaning behind the flower, then this book is perfect. However, if you want to know the history or myths related to the flower then you should probably keep looking.

Wonderful resource
Yes the book lacks illustrations, but the amount of information it contains in just a few hundred pages is incredible. List of meanings with flowers associated with them, list of flowers with their associated meanings, and a section of other plant symbolism like zodiac signs, national flowers, etc. Exactly what I wanted!

Informative and Consice (NOT A PICTURE BOOK)
This book is for people who ONLY want to know the MEANING of flowers, or find flowers to match a certain meaning. This is wonderful and easy to use. If I see a flower I don't know of, I just google it for a picture. Again, this is not a picture book.

All writing, no pictures
An encyclopedia of flowers that EXPLAINS which feelings a cyclamen or sweet pea should evoke but doesn’t SHOW pictures is completely missing the mark. It deprives me of the ability to decide how I FEEL about it…which, with respect to all the research done by this author, is a lot more important to me than what others have felt or are supposed to feel. I bought this as a reference for my partner, who is a print designer for a famous brand and deals mostly in botanical prints yet lacks the knowledge I possess, and I was very disappointed to find it as grey as the old NYTimes. And with such a gorgeous and colorful cover! Very disappointed, but that’s owed partly to my not reading reviews well enough, so my stars meet in the middle.
