Heavy Duty Commercial Door Closer in Aluminum - Sizes 1-6

I ordered this closer for garage entry door (the entry door from garage into the house). Since this door is a bit heavier than a typical interior door, I wanted to get a more reliable closer (most other closers I checked had reviews complaining about reliability). So, I thought that a "heavy duty" closer would be a more reliable option. When I got the item, I was surprised how heavy it was. I don't have experience with door closers, so maybe it's normal, but it did seem very heavy. After some hesitation, I decided to go ahead and install it and so far I have no regrets.I'm not a handy man, and I have never seen a door closer installed, but after viewing a couple of videos (for similar items), I gave it a try. The instructions were not easy to follow. Could be because I'm not familiar with terminology. It took me about 3-4 hours, and a couple of tries (I botched the first installation because I places the closer mechanism a bit higher, so I had to lower it). Now, having done it, I can probably do it in 30 minutes, but for a first time job, it would be so helpful, had the manufacturer provided a step-by-step video. Or at least, accompanied the instructions in the booklet with the diagrams (schematics are really confusing since they include both right and left hand door installations). I chose parallel installation with 180-degree opening (it ended up being a few degrees short of 180, but it's okay). For some reason, my package had one screw (for the arm) missing, so I had to find a similar size screw.Overall, the closer works really well. I hope it lasts. Would've given it five stars, had it not be missing a screw and had it had more easier to follow instructions (a YouTube video would be awesome).

I put this on an outside door to a common area of one of my rentals because renters kept leaving it open. It's a solid core, residential, steel plated door, with carpet underneath brushing the bottom of the door. This has enough power in the spring to easily close it through that. And the spring can be adjusted if you want less resistance. There are a number of mounting options that work for an outside, inside, left handed, or right handed mounting.I think it's perfect. Except the plastic cover, it should have been aluminum for the price. But you don't really need the cover, it's just for show, and you could always make a wood one if you wanted.Hope that helps.
