ANOTHER GOOD STORY IN THIS SERIES
I enjoyed this series, in some way it reminded me of the SOT series, without the endless and repetative sermonizing. There are a few problems that would benefit from professional editing, but they DO NOT distract from the story unless you sre just looking to nitpick which I think some revewers are. There are some problems that other have harped on repeatedly and maybe the outhor does not need to mention Isabels "beautiful green eyes" or "they way she can walk through the forest without leaving a trail", etc, etc., more than once in each book. There have been some bad reviews about being overly descriptive, always finding something magical or that allows them to beat the odds and as I remember this always happened to Richard in SoT. Also, this is fantasy and I think the description of places that Alex and team are at is an aid for readers to see how beautiful some things are because there is magic involved. It was the same with the Confessors Palace and Rahl's and the home of the sisters in SoT. Yes, editing would help with wording, spelling and many others things but then the books would cost more. If the author is picked up by a publisher then we will all pay for the editing; the ebook will be a least $7.99 +tax if not more. Then if they decide to publish his work in hardback we will pay at least $12.99 +tax for a digital copy. This is an entertaining story, if you are not planning on reading it just to spot flaws. If you want to see a book that is truly horribly written and self-published contact me and I will give you the title. The story has characters who are likable and for those that scoff at the idea at the plot of a evil sorcorer, kept in a stae of suspended animation for 2000 years and yet the people alive still know the story of what happened, I repeat this is FANTASY. Also it was 3000 years in SoT; they remembered the wizards war and things that happened during that time.I read all different genres and have recently returned to fantasy and I think this is one of the best series I've read. I originally rated this a 5 because I think that the author has potential. I've lowered of all the thing that have been extensively written about but this is cloaser to the 3.5 that the book should be. Maybe I should have left it at 5 to counter all the reviewers I feel are being unfair, but that's not how I review books. I read all four books (he is planning on 7 and hopes to release #5 in December) and I will get the others as soon as they are released.DISCLAIMER: I am not a friend or relative of the author. I was not paid a fee to review this series. I am not a "sock puppet". I received the first book while it was offered free on Amazon and purchased the others because I enjoyed the first one.

Author entertains; continues to improve
In book two we get the next installment of our cow-hand turned king with pseudo light-saber, and if you enjoyed the first book it's well worth continuing. The author tells a pretty good adventure, better than the average independent kindle book, but you're not going to mistake this for the writing of an established epic fantasy author. At the time of my writing this I'm reading book four and I can say that each book has improved on the last, book two included.I have to admit that after awhile I began cheering for the antagonists a bit more than the author probably intended hoping a hero or two might get properly slashed to bits, either because of annoyances or because after so many "near-misses" and death blows healed by Lucky's ever-present healing droughts and salves. The "extras" in the party or that tag along for parts of the adventure become the "red-shirts" and are always expendable with no one really giving much of a care that they got slaughtered. Sometimes we're told that Alexander feels bad for their deaths, but his actions and the telling don't really convey it. They're obviously fodder, even to him.Of course, the heroes are the only ones that don't act rationally. Phane shows his vast power from the outset and acknowledges the threat of the heroes, but rather than conjuring up his best spell to properly eradicate the problem he sends almost half-hearted measures starting from the lay assassin in book one, to the piece meal puppets he sends one after another to be picked off. Obviously killing the hero on page five of book one would have been a problem, but it seems that it would have been in the enemy's power so it doesn't really make sense. While the author dishes out violence and characters need to occasionally stop to wipe the grey-matter or entrails off their armor, when it comes to the romance, ugh, the author reverts to a G rating and then some. It would be better for the romance to unfold behind closed doors than the sappy dialogue and awkward scenes we get and, although I did not think it possible, one of the most boring human-fairy three-ways ever put into print.Hopefully these critiques offer a counter view of the exclamation point filled reviews saying this is the best book ever written, however definitely give book one a try and if you liked it pick up book two here. I'm glad the author has continued the series, and he's definitely improving in each book he writes and I'll be reading book five when it comes out, if nothing else to yell at my kindle for the characters going out of their way to make things difficult for themselves when other obvious paths are staring them in the face.

More of the Same, for Better and Worse
There's not too much to say about this book that I didn't already say about the first book. The only difference here, is that we learn a little more about the magic the hero has and more about the world and there's a different quest item being searched for. The enemies are still wounded so they can harass the heroes later (though their injuries are more severe this time around), the heroes are still constantly injured but saved with magical potions (I never worried about their safety, they have plot armor and it would be horrible if any of them actually died, it just wouldn't work with the feel of the book), the writing is a little amateurish though the story and characters are very enjoyable, and this book again doesn't have a beginning middle or end. The last one is probably the most egregious problem, as this book ends exactly the same as the first book, except with less being wrapped up by the end. Once again, the book ends when the main character gains control over the quest item featured in the main title of the book, and if the reader wants to know what happens they have to read the next book. Personally, I'm not going to immediately read the next book, I did buy it and I will eventually read it, but I'm giving this world and author a break. This review probably sounds like a much harsher critique than 4 stars would indicate, but I have to say that I still really enjoyed this book. It's a nice little read, and the story is a fun epic adventure fantasy. I would recommend this book if you liked the first one, just know that it's more of the same, and I definitely wouldn't advise anyone to start reading the series with this book, as you would be completely lost.

A solid 3 & 3/4s
After finishing the 2nd book of the series I can only say that the Author is improving with practice, this doesn't mean that he has it entirely right. I feel that what he is trying to do is paint the scene in each reader's mind but in my case I sort of keep thinking..yes I've got it now get on with it! For an author that has a tendancy to describe everything to the nth degree, some of his plots are a bit too simplistic, a case in point - the fairy realm/queen, more than a few times we are led to believe that what is/must happen when Alexander & Isobel meet the Fairy Queen is going to severly test their resolve yet what our author serves us is basically a damp squib.I've said in previous reviews that there is not much new in the Fantasy world & any Jordan,Goodkind or Feist fans will see more than a passing resemblance in both characters & plots.I've seen enough to start book 3 so it isn't all bad.

More of the same. Good
Follows on from the Thinblade and I mean follows on like the next paragraph, if you haven't read the first book read it this will make little sense. If you have read the first book then you know what to expect, lots of action, in a book you should rip through in a few days. Some reviewers have said it might be aimed at younger readers and I can see why, there is no sex or bad language, just lots of fighting. But I don't think it is aimed at children. One thing I found annoying is the way the author keeps using the same phrases for descriptions, it gets a bit tiresome but it's not a big deal.

Getting better and better
I must say that I am really enjoying the sovereign series far more than expected. The pace is relentless with the story moving quickly and the characters developing along with it. Some good plot twists, but also some areas where the author starts to build a story but then seems to lose a little interest and resolves the story a little too quickly. This does help move the story along but maybe if these are developed then they should not be started. However I have already downloaded the third book and will be starting out tomorrow. Looking forward to it very much. Recommended.

Brilliant.
Tried this author for the first time with this set. I saw the cheap price and thought, you can't go wrong for such a minimal price. They are fantastic. So interesting, and the story goes for the first to the fifth. But is not monotonous like some can be. Different in each book but following the same story line. You feel like you know the people. Can't go wrong trying a new author at these prices. Now I can look at his other books and would be willing to pay for them now I know how good he is.

Great Book
I Read the first book and was hooked, in a little over three weeks I've now read the full series 1-6. I enjoyed the way the story was developing, I also enjoyed that I could not imagine where the book was taking me next, it was not a predictable book of the type where I could guess what will happen next, I had to read the next chapter.I read these books on my Kindle, I had to stop taking the kindle to work as I wanted to get it out of my bag at every opportunity. Great epic fantasy story.
