Tomb Raider Featuring Lara Croft - The Original (Playstation)

Disk looks clean, however the case is cracked and sleeve is torn plus the manual is missing.OK it is hit or miss as to the version you get, advertised is the original version what I got was the platinum one.As for the game of you really want the best result with these old title try and play it on an old television.

I decided to write a review for those who are both curious or skeptic about purchasing this product. For starters, I bought this game a few months ago, after the game I previously owned (bought in 1996) was too scratched to play. I hadn't played this game for years and wanted a trip down memory lane, so I decided to purchase this version (Playstation One). The game came within days and was in brilliant condition. Game plays smoothly and the case is awesome!GAMEThe game was first built for release on the Playstation X console in 1995-96. It was amongst the first 3D action and adventure games ever made. It was also the worlds best selling game for over a decade until Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009. The game proved so popular, that Crystal Dynamics (the game industry which took over the Tomb Raider franchise) made a remake (Tomb Raider: Anniversary) in 2007. So there's the statistics, now for my opinion.STORYThe story is quite linear but it is VERY challenging. We have four different locations; Peru, Greece, Egypt and the 'Lost Island of Atlantis'. We follow a young Archaeologist called Lara Croft (hired by multi-millionaire Jacqueline Natla) find 3 pieces of an ancient artifact called the 'Scion'. Now I don't want to give the story line away before you decide to play it yourself, but this game has one of the most amazing story lines in any game seen today. As I said, the game is quite linear, which for a Playstation One game is very normal. Tomb Raider was (for the time) a revolution in gaming. It was an advancment in technology. Core Design really out done themselves with the franchise. But this game will get you jumping, swimming, solving and raiding in order to reach the end of each level.GRAPHICS AND GAMEPLAYGraphics... well they're terrible haha. Ok being serious, for the 90's the graphics were fantastic. You know whats a door, wall, enemy and waterfall etc. But everything is based on giant squares (you'll see what I mean when you play it). The doors are either square or rectangular. Corridors are square, textures have visible pixels... BUT the graphics don't matter for this game! It's all about shooting and solving puzzles. The graphics aren't off putting in the slightest. And the music? The music in this game is awesome. You have intense music when there's danger, beautiful melodies when you enter a paradise and chimes when you've found a secret. The sound effects are also very good. Especially Lara's scream when you jump from a high platform. The controls are easy and very basic, and can be changed to the users discretion. The game itself will require a Playstation 1 or 2 console AND a Playstation 1 memory card. This game won't save on Playstation 2 memory cards. There's various save points in the levels, displayed as 'dancing' blue diamonds. Simply run up to these and press action and you can save the game.CONCLUSIONWell I'd advise anybody (gamers and non-gamers) to consider purchasing this game. It's a great trip down memory lane. You won't be disappointed! I still believe this is the best game ever made, regardless of statistics, I have hunted it out of boxes many times and after my original copy was too scratched to play. I immediately got another copy. That's how fun and exciting the game is (at least too me). This game like any other, does start off quite easy and even feautures a tutorial level based in Croft Manor. But don't expect simplicity beyond the second level, things do get very constructive and dangerous. But that's why it's so fun! So I hope you find this review helpful, happy raiding!

When I bought this I was replacing my old version, which I have had for years and is now looking worse for wear, and I was worried it might stop working. So I bought this. And it is perfect, the case has only a few minor scratches from age (nothing compared to my cracked one) and had the manual inside, which is perfect. Even better, it has the original design on the disc, which mine didn't have. This gamer is amazing, old, but amazing. Very fast delivery aswell. thank you.

This is an absolute classic for all you PS1 lovers. Really takes me back to my childhood when mum and I used to take it in turns to play this game.
