Bypass the ballast, but not the light sensor, if your fixture has one.
I'm an electrician, so I knew that the ballast in my fixture needed to be bypassed in order to use this lamp, but it would be nice if a label were to be shipped with this lamp that can be applied to the fixture, indicating that the fixture's ballast has been bypassed. Other than that, this 50 Watt LED lamp was very easy to install and appears to be somewhat brighter than the 175 watt lamp I removed.

Excellent light very efficient
Requires Ballast to be removed/bypassed. The light is excellent, even more light than the 175 Watt Mercury Vapor it replaced at only 50 watts!!!! According to my math (about $12/year to operate per year VS $41 for the Mercury)

Great bulb
This light works great and is brighter than the 65 watt florescent bulb it replaced. Originally thought light was defective but instead had to direct wire fixture for lamp to work. This light is perfect, hope it last.

Wow! What a light. No noise, less operating cost then the old mercury vapor. Want to light up the neighborhood! This light shines!

Made my dark path that was lit with old lights ten times brighter now I can see perfect

Love this light
Love this light! Had it up almost a year and no issues. On a power pole outside and doing fine. Very bright lighting up over 100 yard diameter and would probably be better if my shroud was clean.

Had to use an extension
Work well and come on fast. Had to add an extension to work in A mobile light tower because the bulb dont taper down.

Excellent Bulb
Replaced my 175W bulb, more than 3 times less electricity consumption and brighter light. Excellent product, just hope it lasts for a long time.
