Be not afraid
I'm like a lot of you shade tree restorers out there; not much I won't tackle, but certain things are a bit too scary to try. Rebuilding the carburetor was one of those things.I bought this book, as well as the Haynes Rochester book just to cover my bases. If you want to try a rebuild, I'd recommend you have both books. There are some minor gaps in this book that Haynes will cover, and vice versa (for example, Haynes recommends Loc-Tite for throttle body screws, which can work loose and fall in the engine, Roe did not mention this potential issue). The Haynes book does a better job covering other Rochester carbs, including a side by side guide for rebuilding the DualJet and QuadraJet, though the side by side instructions can be confusing at times. Roe was better organized in this regard. The pictures in Roe are better, and the high quality paper makes it a little easier to read and handle as you work. If you are doing a QJet rebuild, Roe is your bookI was able to get through a QJet rebuild in a very measured, cautious six hours. The carb worked flawlessly the first time, thanks to this book.

A Must-Have book for Quadrajet enthusiasts
Great book on quadrajets, if you're looking to buy this for information on other Rochester carbs, you may be dissapointed. It has some info on them, and a decent but short section on tuning 2G's, but not an overwhelming amount. Great companion to Cliff Ruggles book, with some conflicting ideas on tuning (which in my mind is good), meaning that there's no single right way to do things, as these are both proven authors. Definitely a must buy if you're looking to rebuild Quadrajets correctly

rochester carburetors
This is a very detailed review and history of the Rochester carburetor. The function of the carburetor is explained in detail. I didnt know many of the functions the carburetor performs, like turning on and off the egr system and preventing timing advance till some what high rpm is achieved. Even the early sixty and seventy's carburetors are very complex pieces. If you have a classic car, its important information. The book does not include much set up or trouble shooting information , which is a loss. The reader has to understand the contents of the book and form his own opinions on problems ---- which can be very difficult. I need a trouble shooting book to help sort out different functional problems. A word to the wise ---- have a good rebuilding shop work on your carburetor. An improper rebuild can cost you your engine. Best regards.

There is a TON of good info. It would get 5 stars
If you are rebuilding a Rochester carb, this is the book for you. There is a TON of good info. It would get 5 stars, but my specific carb was omitted, leaving me wondering a bit on some of the electric portions of the carb. This book does a great job explaining the function of the parts of the carb, which is a great tool to diagnose problems.

It's the Bible for Quadrajets
I successfully rebuilt a Quadrajet from this book. That's not to say I didn't have my moments of frustration because the book seems to be an amalgamation of segments written at different times -- and the content on one section doesn't seem fully aware of the content in another section. The key is to spend the time to identify your particular carburetor. Down to the last digit or number. The author will assume you know exactly which carburetor you have.A few little things like the position of the float valve retaining clip or how useful a thin spatula is when reassembling the horn weren't very obvious but go a long way to making your life easier. "Reassemble in the reverse of disassembly" just doesn't cut it as far as I'm concerned.

Not that helpful for my needs
Not quite what I had in mind. This book is great if you are a racing enthusiast and want a lot of detail about the idle and secondary systems, but I am focused on the primary system right now as I have a (cruise-speed) part-throttle problem. There is precious little info here having to do with the tuning and/or trouble-shooting of this system. Above all, I was looking for confirmation of my gradual enrichment strategy and tips on when to lean and/or when to enrich APT (based on symptoms) - did not learn anything new here, will have to look elsewhere.

Excellent information for novice and experts alike
Very informative and useful, full of tips, teardown and rebuild, diagrams, I already have knowledge and experience with carburetors but still very useful, brushup information for me.

Three Stars
This manual does not cover the early Rochester 4-Jet. All other Rochester carbs are covered well.
