Question 1

Can you use with with the nipple guard?

Accepted Answer

Yes I used it with the Medela nipple shield, I would put the tube under the shield and tape it in place.

Question 2

Does the milk only come down the tube when the baby sucks or does it come out on its own?

Accepted Answer

It can come out on its own, but it is very slow since the tube is so small- so baby sucking does most the work

Question 3

why does this say "disposable"? I already have the medela bottles with me

Accepted Answer

This version is only meant for short term supplementation, say a week or so. The tubing won't hold up to dozens of washings and sterilizations and use. I've seen them come loose from the tip, tube get crushed from being turned "off" and sometimes the tube just breaks. It's great if your IBCLC lactation consultant only requires you to do some short term supplementation, but if you are going to be supplementing at the breast for more than a dozen feedings or so, you'll want the larger, more adaptable full size SNS. https://smile.amazon.com/Medela-009-0003-Supplemental-Nursing-System/dp/B000W73YKY/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1505751776&sr=8-2&keywords=sns+feeding+system

I'm an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and an RLC (Registered Lactation Consultant) and I've found these are great for short term use, or to help a mom find out if this method works for her. She will need the larger full size SNS for long term supplementation. It is sturdier and it has 3 different sizes of tubes and each set has two tubes so mom can set up both breasts at once.

Question 4

Does it work with the Gerber bottles?

Accepted Answer

I don't know if it *works* but the Gerber bottles do fit the cap properly.
