A great variation on the Aqara wireless switch, but not without issues
I've got quite a few Aqara switches in my home, which are used to control a variety of smart bulbs that I've picked up over the last 12 months or so - way more than I had any use for. As I use Home Assistant as a smart home automation platform, I wanted switches that wouldn't just kill the power to the bulb (and thus render it unusable as a smart bulb) and, given that my family have to interact with these and won't want to use their phones to do it, they have to be spot on. Unfortunately, during my last eBay sweep of these switches (some with power, others being remote) I miscounted the number of double gang wireless switches and ended up one short. I ordered this one because (a) it was cheaper than some and (b) I could get it quickly.I wasn't expecting many differences, but the key one is in the design itself. It doesn't look like what I would call the "classic" Aqara switch, instead having a slightly chunkier look, with the LED lights at the front rather than underneath, which means you can see easily if they've been pressed or not. It also has a subtly different feel when pressing the switches, too, it feels a bit more solid and reassuring. So, all good so far. It's basically the same innards as the other switches, so the time came to integrate it into Home Assistant. First off, I tried the ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation) option which I'm using as a default, which found the switch, but refused to configure it correctly. So then I tried a DeCONZ installation on a Raspberry Pi I have as a spare, which wouldn't discover it at all (but did discover a couple of other items easily enough, so that wasn't the issue). I tried again with a new battery, in case the one that came with it was too weak, but the results were the same. As I don't have the Xiaomi hub, I was all out of options. Luckily, however, whilst working on something unrelated, I discovered the ZHA development "quirks" (which are essentially profiles for not-entirely-compliant gadgets) I had been using had been updated, so once I fired the updated version into my Home Assistant, the switch was found and configured with no issues at all. For anyone who is interested, you need PyPi quirks version 0.0.41.These are a very lovely switch, just as lovely as the other style Aqara switches, and I expect the battery life to be just as good. And probably the Zigbee to be both solid and frustratingly flaky in equal measure. It's just a shame that these switches have so many oddball variances that makes them such a pain to get working sometimes. If you're into home automation, don't mind a bit of effort and want the family to coo at the beauty of these switches, just be mindful that it might not be as easy as you'd think. And if my previous paragraph left you with glazed eyes and a molten brain, give them a miss!

Perfect size but no prize this time
What a shame that these Zigbee standard devices dont all work together.I bought this hoping it would work with my echo plus with zigbee hub but alas no.It's a real shame as I am still looking for that ideal switch shaped switch to go over the top of the old ones. (The ones you have to leave on.)It feels well made and looks good so I am giving it three stars for quality and it being the right shape and size but as it's of no use with echo plus I have returned it.Come on Amazon Start manufacturing proper accessories to go with your excellent voice assistance
