Why would you want to apply oil first? If you’re using it on a food safe item, check whether mineral oil is food safe. Personally, would just apply the wax.

While its principal use if for wood finishing we have tested it on stone where, depending on the variety, it helps provide a sleek finish.

which is the best for chopping board - mineral oil or the wax oil

Thank you for your question. Both give an excellent protective finish to your board and nourish the wood. The wax oil will additionally coat the surface with a layer of wax to give extra longevity, and is a blend of oils and waxes. The mineral oil is quicker to apply and dries quicker as well.
