Less Doing, More Living: Make Everything in Life Easier

Game changing - and fast
Since climbing aboard the Stephen Covey bandwagon in the 80's, I have used many productivity systems and read stacks of books on the subject. This is hands-down the most succinct, well-organized, user-friendly guide I have ever used. It has already massively changed the way I work. I have a very busy leadership job and no paid assistant, and I am not a techno-whiz. But I spent a day working through the book, shifting my email from Outlook to Gmail and following Ari's steps, optimizing my inbox, adding the add-ons, and experimenting with virtual assistants. It has made a mind-boggling difference. My learning style is more intuitive than systematic, and I was still able to follow and implement his recommendations. I greatly appreciate that he names the best purveyors and gives you the links.Eliminating errands - I live in the countryside - this has probably already saved me 10 hours or more in the first week. I may have to give the UPS guy a nice Christmas present, but wow - a full day of my life back. Thanks for this fantastic resource. I just bought one for my old mentor. He's very excited.

and these services have been somewhat useful. They are not magic
This book is really very interesting. I don't have it anymore as I leant it to someone but the advice and material contained within IS interesting. If I had a big (or a small) business, I think I would have gotten more use out of it. As it is, I discovered some interesting tips, apps, and tricks to streamline my life. He recommends a lot of online services that can do some of your work for you, often on a free trial basis, and these services have been somewhat useful. They are not magic. They don't fix your life if your life sucks but they do give you a way to pare down your paper trail and optimize yourself "so to speak." To really get the most out of the apps and tricks he recommends, you have to spend money but some of the services seem a little redundant and I would hesitate to actually subscribe to any of them for a monthly or yearly fee. That said, I have tried quite a few of the services and I felt good, for the most part, about the results. It's really for people who are feeling overwhelmed by a successful business or career and have a lot of disposable income.

Fantastic list of resources
I appreciated the brevity of this book. Even though it's "small" it's packed with resources that can be used to make your life easier and more on "auto pilot" (which means you can focus on things that really matter). Sprinkled throughout are real life examples of how Ari uses the tools to improve his life. While I was able to read it quickly, it will take more time for me to implement the ideas/tools in there (I just read the book last night and I've already started using some of the tools today). As a virtual assistant I'm also going to use the ideas listed here to help my clients. (which is a win-win, in my opinion).

Quick and easy to read
This book is one simple howto for start reducing "clutter" from you life.In the book you will read about cloud apps that will help you have 0 emails in the Inbox or never forget some activites. The author use a lot followup.cc I prefere to use one "simplier" service called tesuji.nu. No need to register just sending one email to [email protected] and it works and it tells you all you need to know. And it was easy to setup with iftt that that the author talk about.not 5 stars because very quick review of all tools.Good reading !Edit:I downgraded this book from 4 stars to 3 stars because information in the book is not up-to-date even if the book is 1 week old ( Today )Response from one provider explained in the book wrote me this "We actually stopped offering the Unlimited plan over a year ago"So you get tool in the book that doesn't exist since 1 year :(Of course other solution can be found.

Optimize, Automate and Outsource
These principles have changed my life. The book is a fast read, but imminently re-readable because there's no way you're going to be able to implement all of these principles in one go. I've found myself coming back again and again to Ari's methodology when I'm looking to streamline or improve certain aspects of my life. I love the philosophy of "less doing" because the reality is that we're all doing more errands, more cooking, more time on hold with cable companies, than we should be. This book will help you scale back on the mundane so that you can focus on whatever you want to do.

Up-to-date and practical
Ari includes suggestions for some of the latest and greatest tech gadgets and mobile/online applications. However, I would add that if you've already placed an emphasis on efficiency and automating your life, many of the suggestions will come as no surprise to you. It is excellent for people who are trying to figure out the cloud and how to better incorporate mobile apps into their life though.

fascinating read
This book takes the 80/20 rule to the next level. We all know focusing on doing more with less time sounds like a great concept, but implementing the concept is another issue. This book is a 'tool kit' for people that actually want to do it. The book is small and an easy read, but I find I have to reread it again and again to change old habits. Even if you don't subscribe to every 'less doing' tactic, understanding how to leverage your time with technology makes this book a must read. I can hardly wait for the sequel.

I expected more than a blogroll with some text
Always interested in learning more, getting new inspiration, I was really looking forward to this one. What I got was a quick weekend read which feels like an extended blog roll with some commentary. If you have read Tim Ferris 4 hour workweek and his blog, follow sites like themuse and Tec related blogs (e.g. mashable) then you ve already heard about most of the services and tips & tricks. Not to say that if you market it as a refenrece book, it doesn't provide value. But what I missed is a more insights, a deeper (or new) concept of some sort, that goes beyond whats covered by e.g. the 4 hour workweek. This is also another difference between this one and the 4 hour workweek. Tim Ferris took more time to really try to guide you trough, give more insights (rather then just naming services you can try to achieve it). All that at the same price.

Simple, practical and saves you more time for More Living!
I loved the book: the logically built flow guides you through understanding the system step by step and offers solutions most of us can apply. The real gem is all the sites and resources I got - didn't know so many of those exist. It would have taken me a while to discover and sort them out. Ari Meisel is offering an incredible value! I am recommending this book to anyone who needs a simple, workable solution to how spend more time on what truly matters.

Loving It!
I don't know how my mother managed to raise me and my brother and do all she did (homecooked meals, bake bread, work and everything else) without all these modern aids and "ease of technology" but she did. Hats off to her but I was struggling to manage the demands of growing my business look after my health and be present for my family. And know to grow and be more productive was a case of me making some sort of change to way I currently do things. As they say nowt happens before it's time and following a series of events I finally brought Less Doing. I love it. The author has a nice conversational style of writing and shares his experience of using these tools. I am not an app person yet in reading the book, I could feel my mind expanding and brain cells jumping up with excitement to the solutions being offered. It has given me a way forward to feel less stressed and hope optimistic and focused on what I can do to live more. I am excited and looking forward to applying one or two trchniques/apps this week to see how I get on. The section about sleep was most powerful for me and I have already started to see changes in sleep habits just from understanding and applying info. Brilliant easy to read book. Thank you 😊
