Another fabulous nourishing DETOX!
First I'd just like to say the previous reviewer obviously has no experience with detoxes. Those are all symptoms of detoxing and no one ever said detoxing was fun. My guess would be that that person was quite "junked" up from poor food choices and lifestyle habits as most American's.I have done the 7 day detox and just finished the 5 day. I like them both but I will say there are advantages to the 5 day not going into the weekend. I didn't use any of the SOS's (specific foods you can eat if you think you're starving) but was also glad the opportunity was there. My husband did use them daily - it was his first detox and he said he would do it again. A friend of mine also did it (she's new to juicing) and she used a few SOS's and when all was said in done she said she'd like to periodically do them to keep her body running efficiently. The thing with any detox is that you have to sail through the storm to get to clear skies and sunshine. Although days 1-3 are generally the worst (all three of us "suffered" with irritability and psychological hunger, exhaustion and a few headaches) day 4 dawns and you'll feel terrific (we all had a renewed sense of energy and felt really great/squeaky clean!). That almost made me want to juice the weekend - just because I was feeling so good by that point I didn't want it to end a day later.I lost 5 lbs, hubby lost 5 lbs and of course you're not going to keep it all off but it is possible to keep most of it off if you continue juicing and eating healthy foods. For those who have a lot of weight to loose I think loosing that much weight in such a short time is a great motivator especially if you can keep on with the 5/2/5 plan (Juice 5 days, eat 2, juice 5) but the key is to keep going with it. In other words you can't go back to your cheeseburger or nachos and think you're going to maintain the 5 lb weight loss. The most important thing to remember though is that this is a DETOX , an extremely nourishing one at that, which can very well become a lifestyle (incorporating more juices into your daily routine - not straight juicing) and the point of a detox is to give your organs a break and release toxins from your body. The weight loss is a perk.I'm looking forward to the rest of Jason's book in the fall!

The book is good, but the app is better!
I have been living a balanced lifestyle that includes green smoothies, fresh juices along with plant-based meals and sustainably local-raised meat so much of the information is reinforcement. Due to extensive international and domestic travel over a period of six months and eating what was available, I decided to embark upon an internal cleanse. I followed Joe Cross's 5-Day Juice Reboot in January followed by a 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse, but decided to revisit the Juice Cleanse because my body responded more favorably to the abundant energy as well as the nutrient super-burst that the juice supplied me. Consequently, I decided to try a different juice plan this time around and was introduced to Jason Vale through a Podcast I was listening to on Juicing Radio. It was there that I first learned about the app. In reviewing the book, i found it to be well-written, but some of the information overlapped and appeared redundant compared to the app which was very interactive including daily videos as well as text. It was clear, concise, and straight to the point which appealed to me! Happy Juicing!

Wow
I first bought the iPad app that accompanies this book. The videos Jason has on there are super inspiring. At first I wondered why on earth Jason was so hyperactive (in a good way, passionate and excited) in his videos. Anyway they inspired me to buy this book on Kindle and I started the program immediately. Now I know why Jason is so hyperactive because I feel the same!! This program has made me feel, no joke, the best I've ever felt in my life. Im 32 and have been fit and healthy (or so I thought) until I was 29 and STILL those 29 years of health feel nowhere near as good as I feel now. My wife keeps jokingly telling me to be quiet as I'm talking non-stop about how good I feel! It makes me wonder why people in general feel so bad and low when there is such a simple solution which is outlined perfectly in this book, with mind bogglingly tasty recipes. On day 1 I was craving a burger, now I'm craving my dinner Juice!I know most people won't try these kind of things but I promise you, give it a couple of days of dedication and you will not regret it at all. Best thing I've ever done.

Truly amazing!!
The reason I picked this book was because I simply don't eat enough fruit or vegetables. I am a ridiculous meat eater, the type that needs meat for every meal and no space for anything else (so I thought). I am also a sports addict but wanting more energy each day from what I eat, but was not cutting it as often I felt tired. With bad nutrition, low energy level and fat which was resting around my waist for god knows how many years. I came across 5lbs in 5 Days after looking through lots of different books. I just purchased the book and went for it. Everyone around suddenly became experts at nutrition, knocking the book down left right and centre. 'You need your fibre', 'don't believe it will work' and 'I think you are wasting your money'. Well after the five day programme, I learnt; to enjoy eating the right foods, improved energy, goodbye stubborn fat around my waist and I am excited to go for another 5 days soon.

Good recipies but hard to follow
This is book is full of good advice and many recipies. I found it hard to follow. I am busy and money is always an issue. It has a long list of ingredients, some hard to find in my area. All adds up at the end. Also, every meal requires a different juice, I never seemed to catch up. At the end, I lost a couple of pounds, same that I will do in any juice diet. I can see this books value but it was not for me.

Yes it's true! 5 lbs in 5 days.
I really enjoyed trying the different recipes (although some I didn't like at all) and was delighted at the end of the 5 days I had indeed lost 5 lbs and felt so much more alive too. I am WFPB (whole food plant based) and this fitted well into my healthy living plan.

Definitely The Master
Jason Vale never fails to deliver good advice. This book, like all his others is an easy and interesting read. The advice, if followed will led anyone toward a healthy lifestyle. It is not hard to understand the reasoning behind a dietary change such s explained in this book. I am avid fan of Jason and enjoy his style of writing. I look forward to being able to download the update.

Its hard HARD HARD but worth it
If you have EVER thought about juicing then get this book, read it and START JUICING. It will be the hardest FIVE days of your life, but it will make you look at food another way: as fuel, as sustenance for your body, as medicine to heal you and as something that can boost your mood and your energy. Throw away the vitamin pills and get some JUICE in your body!

If you want a fast weight loss this will achieve it.
I am not a fan of fad diets and when I heard about 5lbs in 5 days it sounded like yet another fad. I likewise have never been a fan of juice, being of the belief that it is significantly better to eat a piece of fruit than to juice it, keep all of the liquid and sugar and throw away the fibre / pulp. I also have always believed that you couldn't possibly eat as many apples or oranges in one sitting as it would take to make a glass of apple or orange juice.I heard about 5 lbs in 5 days from my sister in law and brother in law who both raved about how wonderful they felt when they did it: full of energy, not hungry and generally very well. They also both had lost weight and were delighted by the results. So, sceptical as ever I did some research on the plan and finally decided to read the book. I had let myself get into a bad cycle with food, eating rubbish, eating through tiredness, not listening to my body when I was full and so eating more than I needed. I should say that I have always been bang in the middle of my weight band, but since having children, 7 - 10 lbs heavier than I'm comfortable with, so I'm not an overweight person. Being very keen to lose a few lbs and to do it quickly I decided to borrow a friend's juicer and give the plan a go.I bought the shopping list outlined in the book and did all of my juicing in a day, labelling bottles and then freezing day 3 onwards to ensure they stayed fresh. I found the juicing itself a complete faff. It was time consuming and I really didn't like seeing all the pulp go in the compost, but I was prepared, due to the rave reviews that this plan has, to give it a go. Dull though it was, I'm glad I did all the juicing at once as it meant I just took my bottles out of the fridge or freezer when I needed them and didn't feel like I was constantly juicing. In brief, as I could write in great, and boring detail, I lost 7 lbs in 4 days - a great result for someone of my weight. However, I was hungry on this plan, I didn't like most of the juices (day 3 juices are delicious however) and often didn't finish all 4 juices because I found drinking it unpleasant. Nor did I experience any of the physical effects described in the book: I didn't have a 'detox headache', I didn't sleep better than usual, I didn't have an increased amount of energy and I didn't feel fantastic. I felt the same as always, though was a bit grumpier! I really did not enjoy being on a liquid only diet as I love crunchy food and missed chewing...I ended up eating leaves of Cos lettuce just to give me that crunch. I also felt that I was dosing up on sugar as many of the drinks tasted sweet, with golden delicious apples, beetroot and carrots all being pretty sweet ingredients. I gave up on the morning of day 5 after tasting the first juice of the day.My verdict: this is a great way to lose some weight fast, though I have yet to see whether I manage to keep it off. But then, losing weight is simple: eat fewer calories than you burn and you'll lose weight. Slashing your calorie intake to about 800 per day is radical, and therefore so are the results. I imagine, though, that if you ate 800 calls of food for 5 days the weight loss would also be radical. This plan is also a good way of kick starting eating more fresh fruit and veg. But for me, that's the beginning and end of the positives. I would much rather have eaten the fruit and veg that i juiced (though eating 4 golden delicious apples a day would have been a lot) and I don't believe it's healthier than eating. In fact I believe the opposite. The faff factor is high and I'm afraid it really is a fad.
