Machine seems finicky
I ordered this item from Amazon, but from a non-Amazon seller. I waited a very long time but package never arrived. So I canceled it, got a refund, and bought from Target instead (although at a higher cost). Below is my experience of the product. When I first plugged it in, I got the prompt (flashing setup light) that I had to fill the tank with water to prime the pump and internal water circuit (just followed instructions). I was able to get a tiny bit of water out of the spouts, and then it stopped. Then I pressed the rinse button (holding the x2 button for 5 seconds), but nothing came out. I thought I needed to put in some coffee beans, and I did, even though I knew that didn't make sense. Again, nothing came out after pressing the espresso, coffee, or other buttons. I found that every time water was supposed to come out of the spout, it ended up filling the spent ground container. It eventually created a big mess. I had also tried to reset the machine to factory defaults, but nothing worked, and I sometimes got an "out of water" warning even though the tank was full, and some other times I got a warning that, according to the manual, meant the machine needed cleaning. This is a brand new machine, so that didn't make any sense. Some of these warning lights sometimes would go away and some other times would come back on.I cleaned up the machine then returned it for an exchange. My replacement unit worked very well and had none of the issues. I think these machines are quite finicky. In all fairness I think the issues are probably not serious, and can be easily fixed by experts who know what is going on internally, but for a brand new machine, I would not attempt or even want to fix it myself.

Good balance of convenience and espresso quality
We drink straight espresso, never milk drinks at home. Got the magnifica start for the convenience, having used semi-auto and manual lever machines before. Coming from a semi auto, it tastes about the same as a pressurized basket. Pretty good, the only issue dialing in the grind setting is that it seems to have high retention, so don't make adjustments every shot or you'll over shoot. With fresh medium beans, it can choke with the grinder on the finest setting, mine is at about 3 now. The grounds bin requires the tray to be removed too, it feels a bit unnecessary if using a catch cup for the start/stop purges. Might update this review in the future if anything comes up from descaling, but so far I'm impressed.
