Real identifiable people (who have given their approval)
Covers briefly the history of heart transplant operations and the vitally important treatment of rejection. It majors on a personal story and the feelings of those involved. I had some reservations about the loss of anonymity but the recipient was the subject of a TV program and the donor's parents got in touch. While it is well written, it is a bit hard to read — you need to be sitting down.It discusses the intense, time-pressured, collaboration between large teams. This little girl's death in a road traffic collision (the police don't like the word "accident"), resulted in the saving of four lives.

A riveting, brilliant, mind-blowing book!
I was enthralled by this book. I have loved Dr Rachel Clarke’s previous books and, if possible, this surpasses them all! Keira’s heart is doing an amazing work as are both hers and Max’s families. Thank you all - you are incredible! ❤️

Stunning book
This book interweaves medical advancements alongside the tragic circumstances of a real life transplant. For a child to live another must die. Whilst this book punches emotionally it also reminds us of the incredible work done by the NHS and the importance of organ donation. Well researched and written it’s a must read.

Two Children and a Heart
This is a true tale of a heart being transplanted from one family to another. Rachel Clarke, with her usual clarity of description and superb writing skills, uses the story to give us a clear and simple potted history of organ donation and transplantation, and the people involved in the process, up until today. Between the history episodes, she relates the story of a heart being given from one child to another. The writing is perfect, easy to understand and can reduce a reader to the edge of tears. An informative, always interesting and inspiring book.
